The Japanese are claiming that their whaling industry is for science....seriously? It's not science, it's sushi.
The great whales are an endangered species. They are clever, smart, and can communicate; yet we are standing back and watching the species die out. Japan claims that their whaling is strictly for science, and that is completely ridiculous statement.
It may not be so bad if the whole situation wasn't so hypocritical. The Norwegians don't make such a claim as to scientific research. They outright say that they kill whales for Japan so that they can have them for food. Greenpeace hasn't come down on them yet, maybe its because they are hunting in their own waters as the Japanese go from pole to pole herding the whales. The Norwegians also kill below their quota.
Along with the fact that the whales are endangered, and the dying process is slow and painful, its the outright hypocrisy that makes me the most irate. The whaling industry is a very small industry in Japan that inspires a lot of patriotism and money for Japan. Of course, Japan isn't the only country in which a small group has more power regardless of the internation opinion. But really, does the government have to try and mask up the truth so much? Maybe with more international pressure, along with harsher penalties from Greenpeace, and economic sanctions will stop the slaughtering of so many whales and the very real threat of wiping out the species.

Greenpeace is starting to put pressure on the stopping the whale slaugtering! Soon enough whales are going to become extinct and then the Japanese are going to realize that it was partly their fault.
