Recovery

On the road to recovery again,

The fear remains

after being physically beaten, robbed of sanity

this is a new place

with new people and new enviroment;

yet it seems all too familiar

Everything is okay today;

but tomorrow there could be a storm

I came here,

to forget what has happened.

To start over again

I'm paranoid

when I get there

I'm calm

the calm scares me;

it takes one single bullet

To start a war

It's too early to tell

If I'll ever recover,

Or if things turn out the way

I thought it would

Or will it be, dejavu

all over again

This poem is about my first year in college on the wrestling team, and compare the treatment I got on the mens wrestling team here at school, vs high school, where I dealt with a lot of sexist people, death threats, and so forth, just for being a woman on a mans team. This was at the beginning of the season, where I wasn't sure how well I was gonna be treated by my new teammates, based on the lack of support I got in high school.

Is it turning out to be better for you? I would hope in college not only will you find more girls, but a more understanding group of guys

well its been better, at least the coach is understanding. most guys are ok with it unlike in hs, but one guy is turning on the other girl whos with me on the team here. i can't wrestle this year due to health reasons. but i will go back next year. for the most part the guys have been nice, but we still have our issues. in high school i was beaten up everyday, and the coach told me it was my fault the guys were beating me up. he didn't do anything for me. and one day one of teammates gave me a death wish. i still get shit from people to this day about high school ,and its been 4 years since i graduated from hs. also i played football too, which had its moments as well. i dealt with very sexist men and women alike. i had a school nurse to telling me to quit because it wasnt good for my body. which is crap, but thats a later discussion.

Were you beaten up outside of wrestling? or were you losing matches?
