Tara Rose McAvoy was named Miss Deaf Texas in June 2005. On Monday afternoon, Tara was walking along the train tracks to her mother's place of work when the snow plows struck her, causing her death. This is a sad tale told many times before. Don't walk along or play near train tracks. Many believe that vibrations occur to warn you of an incoming train. Not so. In addition, trains have a "black box" simular to an airplane to determine if proper action was taken during an emergency. In this case it was, the engineer blew the horn constantly from the moment he saw the girl near the tracks. Many surrounding business report hearing an extended horn blow. He also tried to stop the train, but with so much weight it couldn't stop in time.
The story hits me a little harder because her death occured only a few blocks from my house here in Austin, Texas. To all those out there, please be careful when traveling near train tracks. Make sure you are far enough away at all times to prevent contact.

This is just a tragic accident.
Actually, walking along railroad tracks is tresspassing and shouldn't be done.
This is a very tragic accident and i am so sorry it happened to her. She probably assumed she would feel the vibrations but didn't. She probably thought she was safe. I just feel so bad about her losing her life in this way.
Bad things happen to good people. She was propably so use to walking to her mother's work, she never expected that to happen.
that's so sad. its like playing in the street, only so much harder for a train to avoid you if you don't see it.
Such a tragedy.

Is it horrible that the headline made me giggle?
Ok,then. I'll go hide under a rock now.
The irony kills me.
