Well im a senior this year, I have applied for college and now am thinking about the daunting task of how to pay for college. Scholarships are flipping hard to recieve, I have filled out countless forms, essays, videos and everything in between. And Im still Scholarship Less.....At first I thought it was because I must not be intligent enought. Maybe my gpa was not hight enough, my SAT scores were about average, and I dont have any special needs. Although my brother has seziures and is on growth hormones that small medical condition never seems to help my case. I have come to realize now that I am just *Croutoned* meaning that I am out of luck. I took a job at Hank's a place where I can earn money for college to save. I have gotten a lot of crap from people considering that he place is nicknamed *SKANKS* But it will help pay the bills. Does anyone have any suggestions as how to acutally earn scholarships. I am so tired of filling things out for just $500 dollars, goodness that will barely pay for a few books. One of schools I am applying for is $40,000 a year O my GOD does anyone else think that is a little outragous. The other school I am applying for is only $10,000 a year. A big diffrence in costs. I am not sure what college I am going to yet but need scholarship regardless. I hope this didnt sound to winney....does anyone else understand my woes.

I know myself how this feels, I'm actually 24 and have waited to go to school for this purpose. I have lived on my own since I was 19 or 20, and through FAFSA guidlines you are still considered a dependent til you are 24, married, or have a kid. Well schools a little more important then marriage and babies at such a young age. So I have waited til I was 24 for that little financial aid. I'm sure you are tired of filling stuff out, but in the end it will pay off, when you have that degree. I know it seems helpless but don't give up. Student loans are another option you can consider if you want to. I never wanted to, but with a tuition like 40,000 dollars you may have to. I wish you luck though!

Hi! I had and still do have similar difficulties. I am always apply for scholarships that I see on fastweb and such, but I have found that the most useful ones to apply for are local scholarships. I was able to receive two scholarships from my area. One was with the county's chamber of commerce and another was with a local Lion's chapter. Since such smaller scholarships are less know about and not open to the entire nation, seek them out and you have much better chances. I found out about these two particular scholarships from my high school guidance department. Each month my high school had a publication that gave information about all of the local scholarships (anywhere from the town, country, state, region of the country...) that seniors were eligible to apply for. You should see if your school has anything similar, because it was definitely a help to me. Do not give up with your search! If you receive one, the forty that you did not receive made all the efforts of applying worth it!

Good luck with your search! I hope I helped.

I agree with you completely! College costs are ridiculous! Have you tried www.fastweb.com? That site seems to have a lot of scholarships! Good luck! I feel your pain...

Hello!
I am a college sophomore now, and I remember distinctly this experience and the frustration that is so overwhelming. First of all, although it's a little late for you to do this, one good thing is informing as many of your teachers as possible of your situation. Frequently teachers, especially department heads, are on committees for local scholarships and will be more likely to pull for you if they know you need the assistance.
I applied to 18 schools and I got into every one. One incredibly important thing throughout this whole process is to have every piece of writing, no matter how seemingly insignificant, thoroughly edited by someone else. Typos and grammatical errors will be a big turn-off to anyone, especially if they don't know so they don't know if you know better.
Also, be very honest with your schools while you are deciding which one you will attend. Sometimes if you are upfront with them about your financial needs they will offer you further scholarships or grants depending on how much they really want you to attend their school. This is most effective at private schools.
Peace and blessings,
-Liz
