I have been learning a lot about the harmful effects of Aspartame, and trying to free my houshold of any products that contain it. Last night as my little girl and I were brushing our teeth, it dawned on me to check her toothpaste. I've been using Orajel Fluoride-Free Toddler Training Toothpaste. I looked on the tube for the ingredients, but thanks to Monsanto's bribes, the FDA does not require companies to show all the ingredients of any non-food product, even if it is something we ingest, like toothpaste is. Even if you don't swallow it, you absorb the chemicals through the lining of your mouth. So I visited Orajel.com, and there I found a big section with the toddler toothpaste as a featured product. They seem proud of it. I have to say that I was proud of it myself when I first found it at the store. Knowing that fluoride is harmful to the human body, I was happy to see that some companies were still in the business of supplying consumers with safe and healthful products to choose from (my bad). In the section about the toothpaste in question, I found the full ingredient list. I didn't find any aspartame, but I found several other things I was not happy about. Not to mention a lot of scientifically named mumbo-jumbo. This of course, is another of MonSATAN's tactics to throw consumers off their toxic trail. For example, here is a link to all the other names for the very first ingredient, Poloxamer 407. Notice that one of the names is polyethylene glycol. This is a form of the chemical ethylene glycol that makes anti-freeze so dangerously toxic to humans and animals. Anyway, here's the complete ingredient list and what I found out about them.

I will be calling them about this. I will let them know that I'll be posting copies of this blog with my findings on the World Natural Health Organization's discussion board, my groups OUTLAW ASPARTAME and DOWN WITH MONSANTO on MySpace.com, Wal-Mart, Krogers, Walgreens, several other stores, and also to several members of our state and federal government. It goes without saying I will not be using this product anymore and will be spreading the word about it as far and wide as I possibly can.
Here are some links to other products that contain the ingredients I had problems with. Remember! We cannot rely on our government to protect us anymore! DO NOT ASSUME THAT A PRODUCT IS SAFE JUST BECAUSE THE FDA HAS APPROVED IT. Remember that you can take out the name of any product and replace it with TOBACCO, and the story would be exactly the same!
Products that contain:
Poloxamer Includes several toothpastes
Sorbitol Includes Right Guard Deodorant, Nivea For Men Shaving Gel, Baby Magic Lotion, shampoos, toothpastes, mouthwashes, A + D Diaper Rash Cream, and more.
Propylene glycol Includes Fix-a-Flat, Armor-All, Spray-n-Wash Stain Stick, Wisk Ultra-concentrated Detergent, Tilex Soap Scum Remover, several paints, concrete sealers, shampoos, hair products, make-up and more.
Methylparaben Includes Johnson's creamy baby oil, make-ups, hair dyes, shampoos, moisture creams and much more.
Sodium Saccharin Includes several variteties of kids and adult toothpastes and mouthwashes.
Propylparaben Includes Johnson's Creamy Baby Oil, Desitin Diaper Rash Ointment, Johnson's Baby Gentle Cleansing Cloths, Aussie 3-minute Miracle, and much more.

Thank you so much for writing this! I have been using many of these products on my 1 year old! I assumed that since they were made for toddlers they would be safe. It is horrible that these companies pretend to sell products that are safer for children than what adults use, when the poisons they are putting into the products are equally as dangerous!
Thank you so much for sharing this valuable piece of information. It certainly has made me more aware of what kind of toothpaste I will not let my toddler use in the future!
We have to let companies know we are not going to accept products that contain poisonous substances, WHETHER THE FDA APPROVES THEM OR NOT! We're going to have to protect OURSELVES! We cannot trust the government to do the right or be honest about it any more. We have to let companies AND THE GOVERNMENT know how we feel! It only takes a few minutes to write a few berief emails to state representatives and to these companies! Please take the time! It's the only way we can save our country!
Flouride is harmful??? I didn't know that!!! isn't that what they made us rinse with when we were in grade school??? Thanks for the info!!!
No, flouride isn't harmful. Our regular drinking water is purposely fluoridated for our health. It's only harmful if you swallow the flouride rinses but that's because of the alcohol content, not the fluoride.

Yeah.. That's another thing pharmaceutical companies don't want you to know. uugghh.
Yes some of these subtances are harmful. In large doses. But floride is not agent orange. They put it in the drinking water for a good reason. People are living longer and the gov't does not want to pay for everyone to have dentures. Schoolchildren keep their teeth for longer and are heather becuase they can eat things like apples and vegetables, because their teeth do not always hurt from having cavities.
Also, if you are going to nix certain toothpastes you should also recommed an anternative, its bad journalism to just tell people to stop using toothpaste. You are going to cause a panic. IT IS HARD ENOUGH TO CONVINCE PARENTS THAT THEY NEED TO BRUSH THEIR CHILD'S TEETH, WITHOUT PEOPLE LIKE YOU MAKING LIKE TOOTHPASTE IS POISON.
I completly see your opinion about harmful ingrediants. However, I think you need to rewrite this artical and include alterantives to using those important subanances.

Most toothpastes are required to have the ingredients on the box (not the tube) so you have to check it when you buy it. If you want healthy, preservative-free toothpaste, try Tom's of Maine. I love them because their box lists every ingredient, what it does, and what it's from. So reassuring!

It is really unbelieveble how many things they put in ALL products and we don't know about them, or about the effect they have on our health. I thank my chemistry teacher for teaching me what part of those names on the ingredients list mean (or at least how to deduct it).
i did not know this thanks
I find it odd that some companies submit these compounds that are made up of things that are poisonous, but really, what is the FDA doing if it allows such a thing to be released to people, and more importantly, TODDLERS (aka the future)?
I got a question to you now: If aspartame, an ingredient in Diet Sodas, is so bad, why is Diet Soda given to High School kids instead of healthier drinks like gatorade, chocolate milk or even quality juices? Why has Coca Cola passed a decision to remove REAL sodas, and promote ONLY diet sodas in schools? Based on what you are saying, I think real soda would be healthier for high school kids.
Also, poisons that are mixed with certain other chemicals and liquids become inactive (or denatured if enzymes are present). Thus, the companies aren't doing anything wrong.
Furthermore, in a society where weight seems more important than health, alternative sugars are preferred. I personally prefer real sugar, or no sugar, in my drinks. Why aren't these substances outlawed like other poisons?
These are all in small amounts, you must note. You'd be shocked to see a lot of the products out there that contain toxic substances, but these substances are only toxic in large amounts, or on their own. If you've got a pool, you know that substances are different when they are around other substances. Chlorine on it's own is fine. Moratic acid, while toxic, is not incredibly terrible. Both mixed together? Say hello to Mustard gas, an actual bio-warefare weapon. Very fatal and considered a biohazard.
These chemicals aren't nearly as hard as mustard gas, and to get that harmful, you need to like drink a massive bucket full of them.
You can't protect your child from everything. Just try to do the obvious stuff, maybe go a little deeper, and that's all. At some point in your child's life, they're not going to be paying as much attention to their health as you are to theirs now. I know I certainly don't (and honestly never did). You cannot simply shield them from everything. Remember, it was not too long ago when you and your 5 year old would sit out back on the porch drinkin' moonshine ;)

If a society is willing to give freedom for temporary security, they deserve neither.
It's a shame that the "World Natural Health Organization" isn't a legitimate health authority. I would have thought that was apparent from the shoddy condition of their website.
Might want to check out legitimate sites like the World Health Organization or the Food and Drug Administration. In fact, this article from the FDA makes things pretty clear http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/qa-adf9.html
It seems that it's really only a problem with Phenylketoneurics.
They're ten times better than lunatic fringe groups.
Also, toothpaste is considered a drug, so they are required to list all of their ingredients.

Wow, thanks for the warning! I have to check with everyone i know to make sure they aren't using these products.

I am a deadly drug, everyone around me dies eventually
Has anyone else noticed that aspartame is now added to non-diet gum, yogurt, children's cough medicine and many other products that have been used by people for years? There is no reason to add a sweetener to a product that already contains sugar. Some corporations are greasing palms so they can make even more money on the backs of innocent victims.
Aspartame is a neurotoxin. I would highly recommend checking out *edited for sapm by ediblewoman* for more information about this. The woman who runs that site was diagnosed with MS and brain tumors, and was partially paralyzed after heavily ingesting diet soda for many years. When she gave up aspartame products she got better in six months. Her story is told in "Sweet Misery" and the follow-up film, "Sweet Remedy." If you are interested in seeing those films, go to

Thank you for getting the word out about the poisons in everyday products! :ouch!:
