I was working on the script for this play I've been writing in between my classes. Twenty minutes before my Weight Training class, I got a call from my friend Heather. She said that there were a bunch of people with signs and pictures of aborted fetuses and a guy playing guitar and singing about how everyone is going to go to hell.
So I was like, "The Pro-Life People? Oh fuck, let's make signs."
They were at my school last year. Nobody bothered to do anything because they were more or less benign. Just signs and flyers.
This year, one guy had a megaphone (that was eventually taken by the police).
So, I met Heather and two kids from the Anarchist Social Theory Club (of which I'm a part) were there. I was like, "counterprotest?" and they were like "hellz yeah."
We started to make signs from my notebook paper, until Phil decided to get some boxes from the dining hall. Another girl got poster board and markers from the bookstore.
We made signs ranging from "keep your rosaries off my ovaries" to "100% of murderers and rapists are unaborted fetuses." I stood next to one of those photoshopped fetus pictures with a sign that read "I think I saw that action figure in Toys R Us"
Eventually, the police corralled the anti-abortionists into a designated "free speech zone." This included guitar man. He began playing a song which included lyrics like "keep it in you pants" and "keep your clothes on." Needless to say, I stripped to my underwear (mentioned in the article). A few others followed suit (or unsuit, I suppose).
We kept the shouting match going from about 12:30 to about 3:30 or so. Eventually, they packed up their signs. Some of them stuck around for civil discussion with students who were interested in civil discussion. I think that part was nice.

Man, I am a diehard Catholic, and Im totally against abortion, but that is freakin hilarious!!!!
GAAAA THATS SO FUNNY!!!!!!!
given up on Philly
SHEESH but it's a good thing--My stripping would be immoral and some other Bull while you doing it is okay... (you are a guy, right?)

not the shouting matches, we have had some other political stuff that gets intense, but on the whole--we get the religious preachers and political discourse---
but like the thing that happened at your school with prolife/prochoice /it wouldn't happen at campuses, it wouldn't be allowed..
I remember what happened on our campus was that the pro life people and the pro choice people did set up camp right across from each other and people who passed by would have to vote one way or the other, no shouting, no mega phones or anything and the votes were tallied at the end of the day......
and in general we have a bigger issue in the city--homicides, drugs, guns

First of all, I'm from the Philly area.
Secondly, votes? Who votes at a protest? What school?

grass field and then people passing by would know who has more support (ridiculous isn't it, haha, i laughed too when I saw that)
private university, I haven't come across shouting matches and people stripping
(if you have to know, Upenn) hmm, I'm out of there though, and at another school---
I am saying that sort of protest hasn't happened at that campus--
i can tell that the people (most at that school) are more about politics-
it's funny that they say that they are socially liberal (in their crazy sexed up lives :), fiscally conservative yet they are aginst abortion because of religion
hypocrites-- in my opinion
PS-- where in philly? north, south. west...outskirts, suburbs? where exactly and did you attend a high school here?

Libertarian pro-lifers aren't that rare.
There are some good protests in east Philly on South or Market. Take the train down, they're fun.
If you get involved with some fringe political group, you can build a base of kids that will protest at the drop of a hat. Personally, I'm involved with the Anarchists. I'm slowly turning them ana-cap.

"keep your rosaries off my ovaries"
That is fucking hilarious. I'm gonna have to use that one.

I have to admit, that's pretty funny. These people have wayyyy too much time on thier hands and wayyyy too much lust for power over other people. ANY lust is a sin....wonder why doesn't someone tell them that? After all, it's the atheists that will have to educate the so-called Christians about the bible 'cause they (the Christians) have never read it, and those that tried once gave up 'cause it was too hard. (Wanna-be Christians) I don't believe they will go to heaven. A true Christian reads their bible and are given understanding about it, and these people ain't 'it'. They are like the seven virgins who didn't fill their lamps with oil; they DIDN'T get to go to the wedding. Sad but true. Good job, great post!
I read the article where it mentioned the student that stipped and immediately said to myself, "That was Mike." And I suppose I was right. It all sounds like good fun...I wish I had days like that here.

Och, none of the fun shit ever happens around here. Bravo on the impromptu strip. That's just bloody brilliant entertainment at a protest.

I love that. If only people could be more interesting in Iowa, but, no, people just come here to take pictures of each other milking a giant cow.
I don't need drugs - I have genetics.
That is amazing. Lesson learned: No one can argue with a stripping man, whether pro- or anti- _____. ha Bravo!
That was absolutely fantastic. Kudos on the strip as well.
They start a shouting match and then the head of the whole thing complains that these darn kids who can't intellectually debate use stuff to get attention. xD Hypocrisy at it's finest. Good job.
I would like to tell you that you are officially one of my heros! lol I go to an all girls college so we all are pro-choice (for the most part) even if we don't think it's for us. I'm going to bring the article to my Labrys group. It will crack them up!

I want to party with you!
BTW 100% of pro-choice activists are unaborted fetuses.
