I just learned a very important lesson in blogging and am blogging about this to hopefully help anyone else avoid this mistake.
As I sat typing away, blogging on, of all things, the ideas for my paper, I accidentally hit Ctrl-W as I was trying to hit Shift-W to make a capital W when instead I lost everything. Every last bit of data I had entered from the research I had done (I still have the research and numbers, just not in the way I had prepared them for my paper) all gone.
Granted, this was just a blog and not my paper and since it was only a mere outline and not the paper itself, I am really not all THAT upset. Still, I had no idea that ctrl-W actually close a window without any type of warning (they do say that you learn something new everyday). I also thought it would be a valuable experience to share with everyone else so they do not lose their blog content. Instead, I have decided to begin all of my content in Microsoft Word, where I am not as vulnerable to lost data as I am on the net. This way, when I have completed my entry, I can just copy and paste.
Watch out for that ctrl-W! It's a wicked little shortcut!

I think I did that once or twice, but I don't learn quickly sometimes. I repeat my mistakes a little too often when they are that small. Luckily I don't do that with the big things.
About learning something new everyday:
I bet I can make your brain wrinkle(if you don't know this it will!): Every time you learn something new your brain wrinkles. Ha! Just made your brain wrinkle... So, the more wrinkled your brain is, the more you know.
Cool! I wonder how many wrinkles I have on my brain :)
That's a good tip to point out. I also know in word if you hit OVR at the bottom (or sometimes it will randomly turn on) you will type over everything you already wrote. That irritates me. If this ever happens then click on OVR on the bottom of the document. This has happened to me soo many times and I never knew how to shut it off. But thanks for that tip!

Wow, I don't think that I've ever done that but it's nice to know. Thanks!
If you use Firefox (and have multiple tabs open), they have this handy little thing under history that says 'recently closed tabs'... If you click on the one you want, it'll open it for you again, usually with all your work intact.
I love Firefox.

That's a very helpful tip to know. And the whole idea of creating your blog in a word document first... BRILLIANT! It's like, a no-brainer! Duh! Why didn't I think of that? great idea.
