Everyone has someone that they look up to, someone that has effected them and who they are. For me that one person is Brett Favre. Recently he has announced that he has planned to retire. When the news reached my ears I couldn't believe it. I have always loved football and have always loved the Packers, and the only Packer quarterback I have ever known is Brett Favre. He has overcome trial after trial and has approached them with good humor and a willingness to over come them. In the begining of his career he was not expected to do well and he managed to prove to everyone that he really could be someone that was worth watching. Throughout his career he has overcome many hardships, from the death of his father to his wife having breast cancer. He has faced these obstacles with poise and has always done his best to keep his spirits up. He was easily one of the best quarterbacks of his time but that hardly means that he was perfect. While he has won over many records in his time one of them has been most interceptions. Not necesarily a record to be proud of, but nothing that he let get inside of his head. Watching Favre play football was truly a gift to me and my family over the years. Even when he and his team were down by 20 or 30 points or up by as much...he always played the game the same way. He accepted that you can't win them all and did his best to do his best. He was always encouraging his teammates and making jokes to keep there spirits up. He manages to smile in the face of defeat and take it with dignity and understanding. Even the football fans I know that are not Packer fans have admitted to me that they are indeed Brett Favre fans. This hardly surprises me, for he is a great man with an astounding outlook onlife. This is why Brett Favre is my hero.
An unexpected hero
