Living in the closet: Not All That It's Cracked Up To Be

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •

Being a gay teenager is harder then being a straight one. Take the pressure you feel as a normal teenager, and multiply by 50: that's how gay teens feel. With all the normal stress of school and social lives, the added confusion of questioning your sexuality adds more straw to the camel's back.

This only intensifies when teens come to the big question: Should I come out? How would my parents feel? My friends? My teachers, employers, aquantiances...

 It isn't easy.

It comes of no suprise that so many gay men and women decide to stay in the closet. And there are many of us who hate that decision, but find no other way. Who wants to be ostrasized? Kicked out of their church? Possibly even fired.

No one wants that. Until the world becomes a more tolerant place, people will continue to hide in their closets.

Frankly, I'm sick of it. It's dark, musty, and hot in here.

 I want out.

its a shame how in the present day u.s. after all of the histroy, prejudice still exists.
i think that what makes it so hard for people to come out is how the nation raises its kids. when i was little, all i ever heard was do you like that boy?? from that point on i felt as if boys were my only choice and that has been my frame of mind since.
times will change and people will be much more tolerant because i feel that parents are beginning to feel the pressure that their teens face. they worry about their kid/s getting in trouble , but worrying doesn't fix anything. All it does is add more frustration and sooner or later, parents will have to give in and just let teens do what they want, whether they like it or not. it will be like the 50's all over again.
i feel that this generation is very aware of their freedom of speech and they are not afraid to restrain themselves because of what their elders believe.
