Blacks Still Dont Read?

THEY ARE STILL OUR SLAVES. We can continue to reap profits from the Blacks without the effort of physical slavery. Look at the current methods of containment that they use on themselves: IGNORANCE, GREED, and SELFISHNESS.

This is a statement that was read on a NYC Radio Station

The sad thing about this article is that the essence of it is true. The truth hurts. I just hope this sets more Black people in motion towards making real progress. Chris Rock, a Black comedian, even joked that Blacks don't read.

This is a heavy piece and a Caucasian wrote it:

Their IGNORANCE is the primary weapon of containment. A great man once said, "The best way to hide something from Black people is to put it in a book." We now live in the Information Age. They have gained the opportunity to read any book on any subject through the efforts of their fight for freedom, yet they refuse to read. There are numerous looks readily available at Borders, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.com, not to mention their own Black Bookstores that provide solid blueprints to reach economic equality (which should have been their fight all along), but few read consistently, if at all.

GREED is another powerful weapon of containment. Blacks, since the abolition of slavery, have had large amounts of money at their disposal. Last year they spent 10 billion dollars during Christmas, out of their 450 billion dollars in total yearly income (2.22%). Any of us can use them as our target market, for any business venture we care to dream up, no matter how outlandish, they will buy into it. Being primarily a consumer people, they function totally by greed. They continually want more, with little thought for saving or investing. They would rather buy some new sneaker than invest in starting a business. Some even neglect their children to have the latest Tommy or FUBU, And they still think that having a Mercedes, and a big house gives them "Status" or that they have achieved their Dream. They are fools! The vast majority of their people are still in poverty because their greed holds them back from collectively making better communities. With the help of BET, and the rest of their black media that often broadcasts destructive images into their own homes, we will continue to see huge profits like those of Tommy and Nike. (Tommy Hilfiger has even jeered them, saying he doesn't want their money, and look at how the fools spend more with him than ever before!). They'll continue to show off to each other while we build solid communities with the profits from our businesses that we market to them.

SELFISHNESS, ingrained in their minds through slavery, is one of the major ways we can continue to contain them. One of their own, Dubois said that there was an innate division in their culture. A "Talented Tenth" he called it. He was correct in his deduction that there are segments of their culture that has achieved some "form" of success.
However, that segment missed the fullness of his work. They didn't read that the "Talented Tenth" was then responsible to aid The Non-Talented Ninety Percent in achieving a better life. Instead, that segment has created another class, a Buppie class that looks down on their people or aids them in a condescending manner. They will never achieve what we have. Their selfishness does not allow them to be able to work together on any project or endeavor of substance. When they do get together, their selfishness lets their egos get in the way of their goal Their so-called help organizations seem to only want to promote their name without making any real change in their community. They are content to sit in conferences and conventions in our hotels, and talk about what they will do, while they award plaques to the best speakers, not to the best doers. Is there no end to their selfishness? They steadfastly refuse to see that TOGETHER EACH ACHIEVES MORE (TEAM). They do not understand that they are no better than each other because of what they own, as a matter of fact, most of those Buppies are but one or two pay checks away from poverty. All of which is under the control of our pens in our offices and our rooms.

Yes, we will continue to contain them as long as they refuse to read, continue to buy anything they want, and keep thinking they are "helping" their communities by paying dues to organizations which do little other than hold lavish conventions in our hotels. By the way, don't worry about any of them reading this letter, remember, THEY DON'T READ!!!!

Harsh and generalized, but smart Black people have been saying the same thing for quite a while.

If more Blacks read this, they might understand that they are still stereotyped.

I think it has less to do with being stereotyped and more to do with living up to the stereotype. If this were just racist bullshit promoting the exploitation of Blacks it wouldn't matter, but because it is mostly true it does.

Tru..I think if more read this they would understand and try to do something about..instead of just sittin around and doin nothin.

I think that this is not to help blacks understand why they are sterotyped, the information in the letter was true, but we are not the only ones that are greedy. Please dont go there, because I can make a letter about whites and create the same impact.

sad,but true

Unfortunately, yes. I hope Blacks come to their senses soon and take a stand on this.

I am black, tell me smart lady, how would you like me to take a stand? What do you suggest I do?

I think you all need to read some Larry Elder.

I hope they all do. They need to understand that they are writing and judging all of them and they probably dont know it.

That was shockingly truthful and I am conflicted as to whether or not I should agree. As a black person, I personally think I see a lot of others of my race striving to achieve things (like businesses) of course I do know people who honestly blow all their money on sneakers. (My friend's boyfriend has every Jordan ever produced.) But perhaps it'd be better not to say that almost the whole race follows this pattern. Though I see a point, it's still slightly offensive...

I agree to that. Im also one that looks for the latest fashion..because i am sneaker fiend...but that was way to offensive and harsh.

I am kind of curious where the whole sneaker thing comes from. When most people buy a lot of shoes they buy dress shoes, why the popularity of sneakers? It always struck me as sort of an odd fashion facet to latch onto with such force.

The sneaker thing is stupid..but in a way you kinda understand.

it was way too offensive and harsh, but you said that blacks need to take a stand....flip flop flip flop

I read this article awhile back but i still find it offensive but true...some generalizations but mostly true.

Conformity is the jailor of freedom and the enemy of growth!~JFK

I agree with some of it..but its still wrong to think you can say all that without a reaction.

Maybe part is true, and yes they may be living up to a stereotype; however who first established this stereotype? Where did it come from? Also, there are those who laugh at a minority working to break away from the sterotype. If the only place society has established for minorities and particular racial groups is in the comfortable egg carton of stereotypes, how can the success these minorities actually be accepted and taken seriously?

Tru...You sound like you could be a politician when you grow up....LOL

So your saying that if my people simply read more, we can become "first class citizens" like whites? Since its being segregated as "you"(that includes the blacks that agree with this madness) and "they", when have any of "you" roamed each and every home in the black community, 24/7, to find out how much any of "us" read? Do you really believe that every business in the black community is based on greed and selfishness? Do you believe that every black man or woman is more concerned with their shoes, rather than feeding their kids? As long as "you" perpetuate these stereotypes and ignorant ideas, of course they will be true (its not spelled "tru") because "you" want them to be true.
Oh yeah, don't forget, a beginning has an end, a back has a forth, an up has a down. And for every one of "us" that doesn't read, there is one of "you" living in trailer parks and off country roads that doesn't either. For every one of "us" that wears hip clothes, there is two of "your" 15-16 yr old wannabe "gangstas" trying follow. And for every one of "our" greedy business owners, there are twenty of "yours" sucking every community dry for "their" own gain and wealth. "We" have and continue to work for every thing we've gotten in this country, through resistance and evil from "you". But I guess reading will change all that, right?
