Supporting a cause

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

So why is it that someone will wait until they are diagnosed with some ailment before they will start supporting such a cause? How many celebrities are now trying to find a cure AFTER they have been diagnosed with cancer? Why not support something now?

We really need to get out of the "it's about me" mentality and start supporting others now. Do not wait until you or a loved one has breast cancer, help out now. There are so many organizations that could use your support. I do realize that some people may not even think about such UNTIL they are diagnosed, let's try to get past that.

Be careful in your research! There are some organizations that will use up to 80% of donations for administrative cost. This is way too much, no company should use over 20%. There are also more then cancer research groups too support, if that is not the route you would like to go. Also support DOES NOT MEAN ONLY MONEY, there are other ways to support a cause without spending any money.

One of my favorite groups are Make-A-Wish Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. Afraid of building a house? Then make arrangements with the group to bring the workers a bagged lunch one day, they really appreciate it.

There are SO MANY chances out there to support others, from making a large monetary donation for an organization to helping out with a teen group.

My challenge to you is: Find a cause you believe in and do something now in support of it.

What can you expect? I mean, everyone is selfish. Everyone cares about themselves right? If you don't, you wouldn't be alive. I can see why this frustrates you, but it's just a way of life.

I agree with weezyf.
People have a hedonistic outlook on life, and we don't bother to concern ourselves with things that don't apply to us. It's life, but I also understand how it can tweak you a little.

Both you and weezyf are right. But thank you for understanding how it can irk me Oh please Oh please Oh please...

People are that selfish everywhere. Not just celebrities. Hey, if you want to research someone I find heroic, google Jerry Lewis. He's an actor from the forties(still alive...) and he's been championing the cause of kids with muscular distrophy since he's had a career. Yeah, they're few, but not every celebrity supports things like this only after they've been diagnosed...

I am a big fan of movies made between the 1920's and 1960's.

It was probably unfair to say all celebrities are like that, and you are right. There are some who have taken it upon themselves to advocate for a cause. Bruce Willis advocates for adoption, although none of his children were adopted, and I don't believe he was.

No you were right. Many celebrities don't even think about that stuff until it affects their own lives somehow...
