ISSUE of IMMIGRATION

The issue of illegal immigrants entering our country, is becoming more and more controversial every day. People argue that the immigrants contribute a lot to society, while otehrs see immigrants as threat. People loose their jobs to the illegal immigrants. The tax rate is raising higher an higher, because of so many people illegally entering the United States.

Illegal immigration and immigration in general presents a certain threat. We never know what kind of people we are letting into the country. How would we know if those admitted immigrants won't stab us in the back. What about the threat of terrorists who get in the country.

On the other hand, how can we argue and oppose immigration when all of us are immigrants. Unless you are a native american, you arean immigrant. Unites States of Amerian is a country of immigrants! Is there any way to prevent the issue of immigration?

"What about the threat of terrorists who get in the country."

Not all terrorists are immigrants. Have you ever heard of American Taliban? You're putting immigration and illegal immigration is the same basket. I think most of us don't have a problem with legal immigration, it's the illegal immigration that some people feel we need to control.

Yea, I would have to say that there is a difference between illegal and legal immigration.

It is really immigrants who cause tax rates to raise higher? I think the government is spending more money fighting the war in Iraq, hence, the real cause of tax rates to raise higher an higher to pay for the real expenses that the country has to worry about.

I agreed with the Blog right up to the last paragraph. But then it gets ridiculous. All nations are nations of immigrants. The "native americans" crossed the land bridge from Asia and were immigrants. The rest of us just got here later. The Human species probably has its origins in Africa but even in Africa there has been plenty of migration. Read "Chakka the Zulu". The people of a nation have a right to defend their borders and control immigration for their own benefit. Just ask the Government of Mexico which has much stricter laws than our own. Because our families immigrated here at some earlier point in time does not mean that we as a nation do not have the right to control our borders and regulate immigration. There are about 5 billion people on earth that are poorer than the average Mexican. By your crazy logic we should have no right to stop them all from coming.

Immigrants as a general category don't directly cause taxes to rise but people do. If one looks across the country small towns almost invariably have lower taxes than bigger towns which have lower taxes than bigger cities. Since immigration is the driving force behind population growth, and population growth turns small towns to turn into larger towns it is fair to say that immigration causes taxes to rise.

Most legal immigrants have high levels of education and earn good wages and contribute more to than they consume from the treasury. But the story for illegal immigrants is completely different because they tend to have very low levels of education and therefore very low earnings. Low wage earners always consume more tax revenues than they contribute. Just consider educating their children. A typical illegal Mexican family with three children in school consumes about $24,000 ($8000 per child) in educational tax dollars each and every year. That is more taxes in a year than the typical illegal worker will pay in a lifetime. That is before you consider their use of social welfare programs that are designed to transfer wealth from the rich to the poor. And low wage earners take more out of Social Security than they ever pay in so illegal immigrants won't be the salvation of that Ponzi Scheme either.

And by the way, the Bush Administration cut taxes at the Federal Level and the lower marginal rates caused tax revenues to rise because the economy expanded due to the stimulative effect of lower taxes. I will grant you though that the Iraq War has however consumed all of those revenues (and then some).
