Now really, as a people, we go along with what the media feeds into our minds right? Today's Hip Hop culture is just one topic that i would like to express. Having many conversations with other female teens, like myself, on this, we all feel that we (as Afdrican American people in general) have done nothing to better our future . Take these video vixens that show every bit of themselves on the top of the line rapper's videos, for example. It disgusts me personally to see young women degrading themselves, just to get their 5 minutes (on average ) of fame on the music videos and also to gain a reasonable paycheck. Young teenage girls especially want a role model to look up to right? As for me, i look up to my mother and also all the women who came before me that suffered through a lot to get us to where we are today such as Oprah, Shirley Chisolm, and others.
We consistently continue to fail as a people through this black culture because all we're really doing is putting bad messages into young adolescent minds leading them into dealing drugs on the street at a young age or dropping out of school. We need to come to realize that until black (hip hop) culture is disentangled from the world of hip hop, we are not going to experience any progress in the next years to come.
Has Hip-Hop Culture Really Progressed?
