What is up with 00 being the new size 2? This is almost as crazy as the beehive-shape of the corset which physically crushed the internal organs. Women and girls are out there propped over toilet seats, or doubled over from hunger pangs because of bulimia or anorexia. Why are we letting our society push us into a mold? and the bigger question is who is to blame?
I think the biggest reason we're allowing society to squeeze us into a smaller size of jean is because we all want to meet our highest level of necessity and that is acceptance by others. Down deep we all wish to be accepted and loved. People believe that looking like the girls in magazines and movies will enable them to gain this acceptance.
Which answers my second question, whos to blame? The stars who influence us as well as the media who promote and highlhight their ever shrinking weights. Many stars follow a healthy balanced diet, but the ones who get the most publicity are the ones who announce they're checking into rehab for anorexia or bulimia or even drugs which can aid in the skin n bones look so many hollywood starletts are promoting today.
Those of us who are happy with our size 5, 9, 12, 14 or w/e need to appreciate our bodies and have real beauty. The average woman in America is a size 14 so why are we being showed size 0s as models? What we need is some healthy sized women of average heights as role models.
I've also noticed that pant sizes have gotten smaller. I've stayed the same size now for at least 4 year but I find my size in pants has increased at least one size and in some cases two. Even the smaller clothing companies are in on this ever shrinking expectation for women!

when religion loosened it's hold on controlling women's lives, a giant culture of 'beauty' boomed to take its place and make women feel bad about themselves. All of these beauty ads have messages that play to deeper emotions. If you're not beautiful, it's because of a personal failing.
And now, you can be replaced in your job if you age or are not beautiful enough. It's sad.
where the religious guilt ends, the beauty guilt takes over. People say, "Oh, stop being so superficial!" when they talk about anorexics. Starving ones' self wasn't a big problem 40 years ago (or it wasn't talked about). Notice a difference in the culture? Women in the media have gotten progressively more distorted looking. Old women are not represented in the media. they're practically invisible.
Apparently what a woman looks like or weighs means something about her, when it really shouldn't. Men are not subject to this kind of scrutiny.
