Who will you vote for in the 2008 election?

Tagged:

First of all, I would like to let all ya'll know that I am rather new at this.  I have blogged before, but never on a site like this.  So, hello, and bear with me while I get this thing figured out lol.

So, to get started:

The 2008 Presidential Election is under way!!!  This will actually be the first election I will ever vote in; I turn 18 a few months before the voting begins.  So, I have been looking into the candidates, working on picking out who I'm going to vote for.  So the question is:  who will you vote for?  Here are the choices:

Democrats:
Joe Biden
Hillary Clinton
Chris Dodd
John Edwards
Mike Gravel
Dennis Kucinich
Barack Obama
Bill Richardson

Republicans:
Sam Brownback
Rudy Giuliani
Mike Huckabee
Duncan Hunter
John McCain
Ron Paul
Mitt Romney
Tom Tancredo
Fred Thompson

You can go to this site (http://projects.washingtonpost.com/2008-presidential-candidates/), which gives links to more information about each candidate.  Personally, I'm going to vote for Fred Thompson.  In my opinion, Ronald Reagan was the greatest president this nation has ever seen, and Fred Thompson is like him all over again...yes, all the way down to his job before getting the presidency (actor, if you didn't know).  So who's your candidate?

I recently took an ideology quiz that said the candidate I agree with most is Fred Thompson. I totally agree with you on the Ronald Reagan appeal...but it only might work if you're a conservative republican like you and I appear to be. Let's keep our fingers crossed though!

I'd really like to take it, just to see where the quiz says I stand.

I'm currently working for the Mitt Romney Campaign.

Similarities between Fred and Regan- both actors. The guy says nothing, and what he does say is basically, I agree with Bush. Really, what has he said that makes him worth voting for?

Me, I'd probably vote for Gravel. If he doesn't win the primaires, but Ron Paul manages to, something which is actually concievable, though still a long shot, I'd vote for Paul.

If I could, I'd probably go for Hillary. I agree with most of her positions on important issues in United States. I having doubts that the Republicans can hold on to the White House any longer. Bush and Craig totally killed their party....I think...

Are you voting for her because she's a woman or because you actually believe the stuff that comes out of her mouth?

Well I'm not sure who I'm going to vote for. Its a tough decision and requires some thought. But I'm leaning towards Rudy. Hopefully i don't have to chose the lesser of two evils.

I will also be turning 18 for this voting cycle. I am going to vote for Obama. One because I agree with what he says. Secondly I am voting for him, because he advocates what I want to see done again in Washington D.C. , Bipartisanship. This country needs to come together as one again, and I believe he will start that process.

Every candidate advocates bipartisanship. One of the few candidates I've noticed that actually can back this up is Mitt Romney who was a Republican governor of Massachusetts. He went from billions of dollars in deficit to a surplus with a legislature that was 80% Democrat.

My first and foremost problem with Obama is his lack of experience, the same problem I have with Giuliani.

I've been doing a huge research project on the candidates to understand the issues, the politicians and exactly what drives them... I'm not done yet, but so far, Mitt has my vote. He's utterly honest, financially brilliant, and politically diverse while being morally sound.

The one sad thing, (and if he loses the election this will be why) is that 30% of the populace refuse to vote for a Mormon, even if he is qualified in every other respect. Get real. With that attitude, I'll be happy if we get someone in the office who is a better person than my school janitor.

"He's utterly honest" What about that whole thing with his sudden switch, only months before he decided to run, from being pro-choice to pro-life. That sounds like he's trying to appeal to the Christian Right, not being honest about his position. Either that, or before he was trying to appeal to the left. After all, he was the governor of a blue state. Whichever way you look at it, in one case, at least, he was not being honest.

Mitt Romney said in April, "I've always been personally pro-life. For me the role of government was what was uncertain." Because he is a politician (and bills don't wait) Romney had to make decisions before he had reached a conclusion on the subject, and tentatively labeled himself as "pro choice". He had finally come to a conclusion that he is comfortable with. Finding your stance does not make you a flip-flopper.

His stance on abortion is this: that abortion should be banned in all cases except rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. However, he has said that he will not tamper with existing state abortion laws.

His position when running was effectively pro-choice. When running for office, he declared he wouldn't change the laws that were already on the books. The laws were pro-choice laws, therefore his position was effectively pro-choice. During debates on embryonic stem cell research, Romney's position changed from indifference to prolife after listening to two scientists talk about the process of extracting DNA from embryos.

Ron Paul all the way.

why? You merely stated your opinion; you didn't give an explanation...

I would vote for Ron Paul over my dead body.

Ron Paul at first glance seems amazing. His strict Constitutionlism values would force government downsizing and lower taxes. But along with these views, Paul is an isolationist. He would have the US draw ALL armed forces out of ALL overseas military posts. This, to me, is not a smart move.

He is an anti-interventionist. You obviously have no idea of the concept and differences of isolationists and anti-interventionests.

"He would have the US draw ALL armed forces out of ALL overseas military posts." So what? Why do we need troops in Germany? Or Japan? Why can't South Korea defend itself against a bunch of half-starved North-Koreans?

His stance is that we shouldn't meddle with the internal affairs of a nation. He wants to have healthy diplomatic relations with everyone.

I'd love to vote for Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich because I like what they stand for but they are extremists and sadly won't win primaries. So Barack Obama has my vote. Germany is supporting him and so are many other European countries. I think he would be a fantastic president and would make our country a better place and fix the messes Bush and Cheney will have left behind. I really don't like any of the Republican candidates especially Romney.

Someone mentioned taking a quiz. At progressiveu.com, I figured we'd all just take a gait over to issue-central...
