So, now that the world has decided to go crazy with health care, and taking extra expensive steps to being thinner, and healthier...I am now feeling a large hesitation, towards getting some cinnamon sugar toast for breakfast.
Oooohhh it's amazing. =] I love cinnamon. But, of course, seeing as I am already drinking some coffee...I don't want to get fat now do i?
So, now I'm forced to make a tough decision....
Do I eat the toast, and with the sugar, combined with the carbs of the bread, and the nothingness of the cinnamon...grow closer to diabetes?
Or, do i just live off coffee this morning?
And then make another huge decision at lunch?
They say, breakfast is the most important meal. They also say..."Eat those fruits and vegetables...Eat that protein, and those limited carbs."
Wanna know how I hear it?
"Eat that expensive salad, eat the 7-dollars-a-bag apple... Get lots of that pricey protein, and beg your parents to buy more wheat."
See, at 16, and jobless. I eat what my family can afford...which is usually ALWAYS unhealthy things. But can we help it? It's either eat that...or lose the house, cause we can't pay rent, (or of course, don't drive ANYWHERE ) while eating a gourmet salad, chicken breast, and a side of asparagus.
Our meals are never really from scratch... they really aren't anything of substance unless something is majorly on sale, or my mom grew it in the garden.
So now, even more hungry, I'm back to square one, with a lot of world issues behind me,
and a confused mind.
Do I eat the toast?
Well...seeing as there really isn't anything else in there...
Yes. I'm eating the toast. So to all you random weirdo's out there... sometimes we don't eat healthy...because we cant.
My 130 pound, 16 year old body, might end up to be 230 someday... but at this point...it would not have been my fault.
Until you can REALLY pay for things, you won't be healthy. Health is expensive.
In my opinion...it shouldn't be.

Are you sure your'e not talking about Cinnamon Toast Crunch? I love that cereal. I completley agree with you. Thats why I gave you a 5. Health food is way more expensive but everyone wants you to eat it. But unhealthy food is so cheap. So if your paychek is not that big, then what do you do? I really do understand you and agree.
Cinnamon toast crunch? An unhealthy cheap food? The last time I checked it was like twelve hundred dollars for a three once box of it....or something equally ridiculous.
I never shop for things at eye level because the higher shelf the more expensive it seems. This is easier for me becuase I have small ones that keep my eyes downward for the most part. The off brands and bagged (not boxed) brands are twice as much food product for half the price. Plus the boxed stuff leaves less trash and tastes the same.
Good luck to you all

You can make healthy food on a limited budget. It may not be as healthy as it could be, but it's far healthier than pre-packaged meals. Does your family have a subscription at Cosco or Sam's Club. If you plan your meals and buy in bulk, you can spend much less than you would going to an ordinary grocery store, and be stocked up for quite some time in one trip. You can make your own trail mix rather than buying a kind in the store. You can make pizza (it's not hard, it just takes a little more time), breadsticks, calzones, bread bowls, etc, with just some yeast, flour and oil (with a tiny bit of sugar to help the yeast along, and water). You can make chili in bulk and freeze it for another day.
You can watch for sales as well, and stock up then. For instance, I know some grocery stores here put boneless skinless chicken breasts on sale every so often for 1.99 or less per pound, compared to the normal like $4. Buy a few packs then and you're set for a while. Buying generic can save money as well, even if it isn't entirely healthy, which can be used to buy more healthy alternatives.
I highly encourage you look up ediblewoman's blog on this subject. She gives a lot of really good tips for healthy living on a budget.

Having a garden helps out a lot. You might also want to see about planting an apple tree if you like them (this may have to wait until you move out, but it's still an idea).
Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the whole "don't eat carbs" or "don't eat sugars," or whatever, especially if you're active and do things like play sports and whatnot. If you're in sports, you'll burn off whatever you eat faster than you can eat it.
The reason why they say don't eat a lot of carbs in general is because complex carbs (breads, pastas, etc) burn slowly, which give you a lot of energy for a long time. However, most people don't need that much fuel, and whatever they don't burn off gets turned to fat. Simple carbs (sugar) just get turned into fat that much faster (complex have to be broken down into simple, which in itself burns some energy).
Check around for farmer's markets and local farms, especially if you live in the midwest. They often have better food and at a better price than grocery stores.
Eating right doesn't have to be expensive, just try to keep things balanced.

Yeah, actually I meant toast. with butter. cinnamon and sugar on it. yummy.
And yeah, those are good ideas...
My mom has been meaning to get a sams club membership.
And we've applied for food stamps. (Im one of 7 kids.)
So, things will hopefully get better. its just frustrating. =\
You can get a part time job at a grocery store.... I have heard costco is good at giving as few hours as possible during the summer for those that would like only a few hours... Then you could get and employee discount on food stuff too.

i need a car to get that...which is money i dont have. and i cannot drive my dads company car.
also, i need a license, and gas...
it all costs. this is America. home of the free, and mostly broke.
Where do you live? A bike might work for some of that. At this time of year, if you can walk around your neighborhood to garage sales, or borrow a neighbor's bike, you can probably earn enough to buy one of your own, and then you wouldn't have to worry about it next year.

Talk to your parents about it. I'm sure if you want to eat healthier, they wouldn't object to going something that would promote that. You'll probably have to do a little research to find nearby places, but it's not that hard to do.
