Argh, the teachers have decieded to spy on the computers at school. I have no problem with them monitering sites....if some porno site comes up in the monthly lists of sites, they can block it, and there are ways of finding out which people are on what computers and at what times. Now with VisionClinent, they can get on the computers and take over them if need be, or just view the pages at the same time as we are....I have nothing to hide, but I hate the evasion of privacy.
I don't go to adult sites, there is nothing to hide as far as what I'm doing on the internet at school...but it just bothers me that they can get on at the same time as me and see private information. This information is in my email account. The whole fact that they can look in and read my emails drives me crazy. Again, there is nothing deep and dark in there but its just the principle of the matter.
I'm taking a college class over ITV that the teacher wants us to express ourselves, be open, and be able to trust her (since she'll be the only on reading them) to tell her things through our assignments that we wouldn't normally be able to share. (Its interpersonal communication, which is kind of like my sociology class to some extentent, but anyways..) Now with the spying, I know that I won't ever share anything like that.
Argh, if it wasn't for my email account it wouldn't be so bad. I hate the fact that they can spy on it.

I am currently in a Media Law class and this is the sort of thing we talk about all the time.
I happen to be one of the few who is really interested in high school Freedom of Speech (I don't plan on being a teacher, but all my passions point in that direction) and I hate the fact that this is going on!!
I understand that bad things happen and with that comes the needs for monitoring, etc. However, I do not think that just because you're young you should not have some rights to privacy!!
Granted, the right to privacy on the Internet is shaky ground, I still think that this definitely goes above and beyond! If teachers can read your e-mails, what's next?
im definitly against school officals monitoring your personal use so much that they can see which page your on and even take over... but at the same time i can understand. a school computer is there for educational purposes. im sure their argument would be to go on to personal sites when your at home using your personal computer.
but...we use email for 3 college classes we take over ITV...its just the fact of my email being looked at, or the possibility of it being looked at that bothers me.
I agree.
And I'm sure no one is going to be monitoring your use unless they have reason to. Why waste their time?

I don't agree with what your school is doing. However the Supreme Court ruled that freedom of speech is limited in schools, and I can understand them spying to an extent, but this is a little too far for my liking.

I am worried that this is too the far extreme. I think this may be illegal..... You might check with EFF.org website for more information.
