Class sizes

How many people can one teacher accurately teach? Well according to many school systems that number is creeping beyond 30. Classes that large tend to be easily distracted. And with all this distraction, who is going to learn anything? This whole "No Child Left Behind" thing without more funding it crazy. Teachers do not have the time anymore to give extra help during the normal school day. So how are teachers coping with it? Some just go with it, and others give extra help after school. With the afterschool help are the teachers not teaching material yet again? Where is the compensation there? Teachers are paid to teach their number of classes, and in most cases it amounts to roughly 5 classes in a 7 period day (speaking in terms of my school), but are not compensated for extra help they give after school. If class sizes were smaller then this extra help session would not be needed. And in some cases, there are classes that the number of students need extra help is minmal. Wondering why? Those are higher leveled classes. Less students, because of the increased number of students in the lower placement classes, get the attention they need to be placed in the high level classes. So more students are creating this middle bar. And just like the middle class in economics, it is the largest group of people and the ones to suffer the most. These are the classes where there are students sitting on the heaters in the back of the room because there is not enough chairs. Or the students who sit at tables designated to hold two students, now created to hold 3 or 4 students. There are just too many kids for the budget currently avaible.

totally agree. one reason i think is because teachers dont get paid enough, so they're less likely to stick around to teach, plus all of the old teachers are retiring and we aren't getting enough new ones to take their place. so we resort to having larger classes and therefore the students suffer.

I agree it is getting to a point where most public schools need to hire more teachers - the point of school is acidemics im soory to say this but if it is nessary start cutting extracurriculars.

Last year at my highschool me and a few other kids were doing poorly in our math class, and with complicated porblems sometimes my parents didnt knwo the answer. My teacher was a part time teacher wich meant she was only there one day after school for 1/2 hour. SO the solution was to go get help on that particular day which happned to coenside wiht my speech team parctise - but like i said before acidemics are more important than extracurriclar activites. I went to my math teacher well so did every other kid in her three classes the room was full 15-20 students how could she help us all - she couldnt. It was abonoxious the school couldnt help me at all. Being the kind of person i am i found some friend who had previously takin that class and had them help me. Not everyone is out going enought to do that. Budget cuts need to be used in the right places.

I think that class size have an impact on how much time you have with teacher, one on one time.

They need to put student teachers to work. To collect hours student teachers should be put in the school sy stem as teacher aids in these huge classes. Student teachers in this kind of program should be paid for this work. We got college students who are having to go to foodbanks for food. They could be allowed to go to schools and help out as an aid to be able to put food on table for a few semester and that it be required to graduate in certain professions.

Doesn't your program require field work? I mean, I don't get paid for field work, but the teachers benefit from the extra help every semester, and I benefit from the experience. If I want to get paid for it, I could always get a job as a teacher's aid (paraprofessional). It is possible to work and go to school. It's hard, but it's possible.

Georgia charges education students fees to take the test
it can cost you about $120-200 on just taking basic exams. You also have to prob pay another $75 at least or more on taking content exams

In colorado. They have the place and the praxis II which are taken after graduation. You have to have the basic exams in GA to continue in your studies.

Students on pell and financial aid should be paid. I know for a fact ed that in the alternative teaching program in GA people are put into a classroom right off without knowing how to do a lesson plan.

I think they should give grants to the students direct. Financial aid my include price of books but sometimes that is not enough to cover when your books cost $120
also you have to pass a basic exam and this other test to be what you want or suggested in GA
