I know that maybe this is not the most "progressive" of posts, but I just have to say that I absolutely hate writing for school. I'm imagining that many of you on this site might be able to relate, seeing as this is a blogging site. People who blog well, generally have decent writing skills....and what I've discovered is that once you acquire "decent enough" writing skills, you never really have to go any further. Meaning, I learned how to write papers that will give me an A. Since then, my writing has not improved. What has improved is the amount of time it takes me to write an A paper. I'm writing the same quality of paper I was a couple of years ago, only now instead of taking me 6-8 hours it might take only an hour and a half. Now, this is awesome. I love that I can complete my assignments in no time at all and get the same grade. However, I actually do care about improving myself. If I can get an A in an hour and a half...why on earth would I push myself to spend 6-8 hours writing a paper that is 6-8 times better? I'm already getting an A! I have a million other things to do! Writing essays has turned into busywork for me. Is that true of anyone else? Has writing had all the joy sucked out of it by a school system that asks us to only be "good enough"? What about my potential! Maybe it's higher than what the school expects!! But you know what?? I really don't want to spend 6-8 hours working on my assignments, either!
Do you hate writing for school as much as I do?

I agree! And I think that a lot of the writing that are done in schools is too structured. For example, an intro, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Although this is good for the most part, it becomes too robotic and it gets students into a habit of writing ONLY like that. Teachers should try their best to show us different styles and structures.
