Conservative, Liberal, Democrat, Republican, all these are labels that are applied to politics in the United States. Each side is quick to judge and decide on various issues. Many times, that's all there is, a decision. What happened to the brain and intellectual side of politics? Deciding your stance based on what is the best thing for your constituents, not what your party is collectively going to vote for.
Recently I was approached by a group called The Centurions. They are a conservative group, but that is not the point. The Centurions sponsor the Conservative Insitute and upon contacting me, posed every question above. The entire focus of the institute is to bring the intellectual basis back to the table. Visits from prominent members of Congress and leaders of political movements are going to supplement the curriculum of 10 books. It seems as if it might be an interesting class.
I hope that eventually, the ripple effect takes place and politics can return to intellectual debates instead of back biting, trash talking, lying, and scheming. Maybe then we can stop asking: where's the Brain?

What's the difference between Conservative, Liberal, Republican, and Democratic again? Isn't it like Democrates are considered as liberals while republicans are considered as conservatives? Who's the Centurions? lol sounds interesting. I'll go do more research thanks.
Democrats are the more liberal of the two major parties, but I don't know that I'd call the Republicans 'conservatives'
Some, like Duncan Hunter, are indeed conservative, as are the congressmen from my home state of Oklahoma.
However, McCain, President Bush, even Rudy... they're not very conservative. Neither is the Republican Governor of California, Arnold.
Given groups like CODEPink, Daily Kos and moveon.org, the Democrat Party is sliding FAR to the left. The Republican party is moving to the left to capture those voters.
However, Democrats are taught to hate republicans, Republicans are taught to hate democrats.
I am a Conservative. I rail against socialism or communism of any kind. My one lone liberal stance is that people who serve in a war in the military should have their healthcare and college provided at taxpayer expense as a national "Thank You" to our troops (with the soldier choosing where to go to the doctor or college, rather than the overcrowded VA System.)
As such, I have a hard time supporting the ever-more liberal Republican party. On the state level, I am very happy with the Republicans, and even some of the Democrats are pretty centrist and conservative down here, but on a national level, I do what I can to keep people like Hillary, Obama, Reid, Kennedy and the rest out of power.
The Centurions is a regional group that sponsors The Conservative Institute. Classes are offered in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

and that is my biggest pet peeve. We need to listen and challenge the candidates-I am sick of false promises...Be real and the Centurions sound like a good thing.
