First off the price of gas is insane. I have been driving for 3 years now and the cheapest I ever got gas for was $1.71. The only reason I got it so low was because The Governor of Georgia, Sonny Perdue, suspended the 15 cent gas tax in order to help the people of Georgia out. Now two years later Gas is over $3 everyday. Luckily for me I have a compact car and it still only takes about $30 to fill up with current prices. It used to be lower than $20. I guess "The good ol' days are gone". Not to say that $2 a gallon was all that great, but I would take that over what we have now. Sometimes I hear my parents talk about how little gas was when they were younger.... My mom says that when gas got to about 50 cents a gallon she thought she'd have a heart attack. My question is... Why is it so expensive??? Now I get inflation and all that. Of course over the years everything will get more expensive, but this is out of hand. Truth of the matter is, somewhere someone is too greedy for their own good. I don't know if it's our Government or the Middle East. It may just be the companies that supply us with gas.
Just a few years ago when my brother first got his car, he says that he was paying about 80 cents per gallon. How could the price of proccesing the oil and transporting it to America jump so high is such a short amount of time. If it was only about 50 cents a gallon back in the 70's and 80 cents in the early 00's how could the price have jumped $2.20 in like 5 years. I don't know who to blame and I'm not sure I will ever find out. I'm just mad as hell and I wish the prices would drop.

Your brother is talking BS, I think. The cheapest I remember gas is 99 cents back in the mid 90's. The price of gas, when adjusted for inflation, was actually more expensive when it first came out than it is now, though we're getting close.
Gas over in Europe is something like $5 a gallon, and has been that way for many years. The profits that gas companies make are going to finding more oil and for finding more efficient means of energy. Or so I've heard.
