What is wrong in the Democratic House?
Earlier this week John Kerry stated that the failure to educate for students would result in being stuck in Iraq. The right-wing pundits have buried Kerry as anti-military and have demanded an apology. Kerry was quick to revise his comments, making clear to the media that his response was intended for George Bush and his failed policies in Iraq.
"I apologize to no one for my criticism of the president and of his broken policy." Kerry said the comment in question was "a botched joke about the president and the president's people, not about the troops ... and they know that's what I was talking about."
Kerry then added this, "I'm sick and tired of a bunch of despicable Republicans who will not debate real policy, who won't take responsibility for their own mistakes, standing up and trying to make other people the butt of those mistakes," he said. "It disgusts me that a bunch of these Republican hacks who've never worn the uniform of our country are willing to lie about those who did."
It seems that Kerry, who is hoping to have another chance at the Democratic nomination in 2008, is starting to show some aggressiveness, something that he was criticized for not showing in his failed attempt in 2004.
The question to me is this. Why are the Democrats so ANGRY at George Bush? Is it because they are against the war? Hardly, since Kerry himself said this before invading Iraq in 2003
"If you don't believe ... Saddam Hussein is a threat with nuclear weapons, then you shouldn't vote for me." -- John Kerry, USA Today on 2/13/03
"Those who doubted whether Iraq or the world would be better off without Saddam Hussein and those who believe today that we are not safer with his capture don't have the judgment to be president or the credibility to be elected president." -- John Kerry 12/20/03
The reason most Democrats are hostile toward and dislike George Bush is simple. They cannot believe that they have lost to him in two elections. Many still are defiant in their insistence that the 2000 election was rigged. However, after Kerry and the Dems lost in 2004, they had no conspiracy theories to point out.
The fact is this. The Dems look at George Bush and his inability to pronounce words correctly (nuclear) and his past behavior of alleged drug use and alcoholism and they can't understand how he could have stole 2 elections. Why can't they beat this guy? If Tuesday's election fails to give the Democrats back power in Congress, you might have a suicide watch for some of the party leaders.
The more the Democrats point out George Bush's shortcomings the more they bury themselves in their own failures. Instead on focusing on Bush they need to push their own ideas and policies. The reason why John Kerry lost the 2004 election was because of John Kerry. When you look at all the things George Bush had against him and the fact that he still won the election was very insulting to anyone who follows politics. The election was Kerry's to lose, which he did so.
If the Democrats want to get back into the White House in 2008, they need to develop a candidate that does not remind them of their failures. Bringing back Kerry or Gore or Howard Dean would again cost them an election. Maybe Hillary Clinton can save the day, but we need to see more positive ideas and confidence coming from her.
So here is a message to the Democrats who want to take this country back. Develop a positive identity that resonates with Americans. Instead of pointing out our failures, insist that we can achieve. Instead of Bush-bashing, bash Americans with ideals and goals that we take pride in. Develop a tough, anti-terror agenda that will stop throwing back their opposition to the Patriot act and NSA wire tapping. Only then will Americans see them as the party of hope and not as the party of finger pointing.
