We have now been involved in the Iraq War longer than we were involved in World War II. Where is the War Heading?

This is a "journal entry" I had to write for my Contemporary Issues class and I thought I'd share. But before you read please know that this is based off of my own opinion and backed up by some facts. I do rant a little in this, please don't be rude in commenting. Thank you.

This war, to me, is heading completly downhill. I don't understand how America can try and better another country's economy when really it should be working on it's own. America's economy is going downhill (http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/03/11/business/rtrcol12.php) and this war is definetly not helping, but making it worse. When a lawyer has a warrant to enter your home because they have suspicions of a crime you may have been involved in, and they find nothing, they do not stay awhile just in case something may pop up out of nowhere. They leave. America first entered the war thinking there were weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East. They went, they looked, and they found nothing. Why are they still there? On Zianet.com a question was asked; " Is there one piece of credible evidence that Iraq has stockpiles of nuclear weapons that it intends to use against the U.S.? " Facts have shown that " International Institute for Strategic Studies, based in London, concluded in a report issued last month that 'Iraq does not possess facilities to produce fissile material in sufficient amounts for nuclear weapons' and that 'it would require several years and extensive foreign assistance to build such fissile material production facilities.' " Adding to injury America is very far into debt because of this war. Nationalpriorities.org estimates that 1,721 tax dollars per person are spent on the war and 341.4 million tax dollars are spent per day. Once again, I ask Why are they still there? Why is America acting like other nations mother or father?
The worst part about all of this is that many people in America don't realize, much less care about what happens. Much of our generation lacks the fire, the urge, and even the obligation to care or do something about it. They seem to think it will be okay or that "there is nothing we can do to stop it. If they government wants to do something then they will do it." They do not seem to realize whatever does happen, it happens to them and their families, friends, and all kinds of loved ones. Because they don't understand the extent of what's happening, they do not know how it is slowly and surely destroying all of our futures.
This makes me upset. I will be graduating in a year (class of 2009), I had a plan to go to America and acheive a good education. But, being in the class I am in, and having informative people around me, and learning certain things that I have learned throught various other sources, I am not sure I want to do that. I don't want to be stuck in a place that has a corrupted lying government* that is slowly but surely taking away the rights of it's people, a place where the economy is going downhill bu the population doesn't care, a place where people are more concerned with Britney Spears shaving her head than World issues that actually matter. I do not want to live in a place full of apathetic conceited people who don't understand or even try to understand what is happening around them. What happend to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness?
