Cnn has a story I'd like to look you at: http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/02/26/norway.seeds/index.html
It's a wonderful idea, create a vault to store seeds, so that when the world's seeds are destroyed in some war... we can get them! I only have some questions...
Let's say there is this war, right? An enormously huge war occurs that kills off all the important plant life on the planet. So the seeds were all destroyed, but the people weren't? And what makes them think the people will be close enough to the seed vault to be able to access it?
The seed vault is a great idea, but if all the seeds in the world are destroyed then it's likely there aren't many people left either. And the chances that they happen to be near the north pole are very very slim, as I'm sure you can guess!
And even if these people survived this doomsday war and decided to go get the seeds. How much food will they have? Will they actually have enough to last a trip to the north pole, back AND waiting time for the plants to grow again? Will the soil be even close to good garden dirt? I'm sure that can be resolved, but it takes even more time. All the while these people are probably eating little weenies from a can!
Okay I'm done.
