I should be doing my homework...but you know how it is.
I realized just now that most people in America don't live 20-40 minutes from where the Amish School Shooting happened a couple weeks ago, but I do. I thought it might be important for me to talk about what's really been going on in Rural-ville PA since that happened.
The Amish people have been incredibly inspiring. Everywhere you look you see their love for the family of the man who killed innocent girls. The response has been incredible. The funds that have poured in for the Amish families, well the Amish requested that they be shared with the family of the killer. They forgave him in an instant.
What is wrong with the rest of us that we cannot do the same.
We want to blame him, we want to say he's sick & diseased, but we weren't hurt, our sisters or children didn't die! The families of these girls are showering love upon this man's family, who lives so close to me, I could be there in less than half an hour. I drive by the road that school house is on. It hit so close to home, that for a little while there, I was thinking...I never thought a "creep" could be this close to me...and I'd shut my curtains much tighter when I went to bed, but you know what, the forgiveness that the people of lancaster county have poured out of their hearts is so incredibly inspiring...I only wish that the whole world could see their culture that is so different.
Their lives are different, but that doesn't mean anything...it's that their hearts are different...less cold, they embrace the love that the feel for others, and encourage the feeling of connection to others. Because of the amish I want to change my way of seeing others. Not as sick, but as the same...no, better than I.
Look into some of the reports. This act that the man did was undoubtedly wrong, sick, twisted, horrible, disturbing...the list of adjectives never ends. However, the response of the people shound not be to point out the faults, the illness, the insanity, but to see what humans are capable of, see that you could have done the same in some alternate universe, and to look beyond ALL of the crap that he put out there, to see another person, like you, who did something wrong, like you have too, and forgive and love them, as you would want them to forgive and love you.
God Bless,
Nora
