GLOBAL WARMING, think it is just a conspiracy from the govornment or some environmentalist gorup? Well, maybe this blog will change your mind. Ok, so Global warming is a big problem. How else would you be able to explain the fact that all of the really big glaciers in the far North and the far South are melting. There is an island near Alaska that is the home of a small community. The island is completely made of glacier. The island is literally crumbling into the sea. Houses on the edge of the island have fallen into the sea. The island is crumbling away. I have seen this with my own eyes on television. Or, how else could you explain the fact that polar bears are becoming extinct because it is so much harder for them to hunt then it was five, ten,or even one year ago. Polar bears hunt by going out onto the ice to a hole in the ice, a lot like a hole that would be used fro ice fishing, and they wait. But, if the ice is melting then the holes that polar bears usse to hunt are getting fewer and fewer. Penguins are also suffering. The land that they live on consists of ice. It is melting into the sea as well. What if Global Warming gets to the point of earth getting to hot? Would tht not suck for your great great great great great great grandchildren? I just have to say that Global Warming cannot be ignored anymore! And it cannot be viewed as a conspiracy either! Things that you can do to help are buy a car that uses no, or little gas. Also, on trips, car pool. Car pool even if you are just going to work. Put your kids on the bus because the extra trip to the school is burning follsil fuel. Care about the environment because it is the only one that we have!
The Effects of Global Warming are Showing!!!

you must be a supporter of obama
the earth is full of problems, global warming is just normal. the earth changes climates regularly through its history. it also changes its species. things go extinct to make way for the smarter more evovled species. its natural. though i think that we do need to cut down on fossil fuels just because were running our earth dry.
Global warming is a load of shit! algore is a dick, hes a polition who only wants money! hes brainwashing us to beleive that if we dont help the environment our next generation is going to die!! well doesnt he think positivly. NOT! Hes just trying to get back at us cus he didnt win the election. Its a scam! hes trying to take our freedom away from us, next he will be saying what type of car we have to drive, what clothes we have to wear! we should be thinking for ourselves. dont let our freedom go.
This is just a normal cycle, get that in your head!!!
if we start cutting out electricity and other things then we wont survive!
man needs those things.
Man just needs to adapt thats all
We have gone through this before and survived why cant we do it again
The eskimos are furious about the recent listing of polar bears as endangered. It is literally taking the food out of their mouth's because they earn $30 to $40k for trophy hunts. They are of course much closer to the situation then the idiots in the sub-tropical climate of Washington DC who cynically made this decision for purely political reasons without regard for actual science,
One would expect the eskimos to know better because they live there. Here is what they have to say:
"It is unfortunate the [U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service] has decided to disregard facts collected by those who have the greatest contact and longest history with polar bears. The truth is that polar bear populations are at near record levels."
It's estimated that there are about 25,000 polar bears in the world, about 15,000 of which are managed or co-managed by people in Nunavut.
U.S. polar bear decision condemned in North
In 1950 there were only about 5000 total polar bears so there are 5 times as many now. That does not sound like extinction to me. It sounds more like we are being fed propaganda! If a few bears are dying then it is probably because their population has grown beyond what their harsh arctioc environment is capable of sustaining.
The alarming facts about artic ice melting in this blog are dated. There was indeed a substantial ice melt last summer. But, we have had a cold winter and the ice pack is back to historical levels:
Arctic sea ice back to its previous level, bears safe; film at 11
And of the course the historical levels is a record which began in about 1972. It is an absurdly short period upon which to base alarmism about climate change.
In fact the Arctic ice sheet has broken up far worse then it did last summer twice in the 20th Century. In 1905 a wooden sailing ship was able to sail the Northern Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific. In the early 1940's this passage was made at least twice in 1942 and 1944. Both of these relatively recent major arctic ice melts which were more extensive then what happened last summer occurred prior to humans emitting large amounts of carbon dioxide. And amazingly the polar bears survived both of them!
Reports of Record Arctic Ice Melt Disgracefully Ignore History
The global warming scam depends on propaganda being swallowed hook line and sinker by an ignorant populace. It would be nice if people did a little research before repeating it.
They're not eskimos, they're inuit.
Also, there are several provisions in the Endangered Species Act allowing native tribes to hunt these animals for their own livelihood.

Yup, there are.
However, the native tribes don't survive just by eating polar bear.
They get money by guiding hunters on tours to hunt a polar bear, which would now be illegal.
The move for the polar bear is also based on what 'may' happen if the polar ice 'continues to melt' (even though it really isn't melting in the way the media suggests)
Also note, the ice caps are growing in antartica. Maybe we ought to move a bunch there?
They get money by guiding hunters on tours to hunt a polar bear, which would now be illegal.
I agree with you but just to clarify.... the Intuits are not under the USA jurisdiction and it looks like Canada sensibly has every intention of allowing them to keep hunting and guiding hunters.
What would be illegal would be for an American to bring a trophy hide or taxidermy mount back to the USA after his hunt. This effectively destroys one of the few sources of income for the Intuits.
Environmentalists may think this decision is great but what they don't understand is that every time they cynically abuse the endangered species act to protect things that are really not in danger or to impede progress for the sake of impeding progress, they are like the proverbial boy "who cried wolf". People are going to stop listening.
When the global warming hysteria is finally put to rest, they are going to find that people are extremely skeptical about ANYTHING they have to say and it won't make much difference whether they or right or wrong because their propaganda and abuse of the public's concern and good will shall cause them to lose their seat at the table.
Just last week scientists discovered a shift in the ocean currents that is going to cause the earth to probably cool for the next decade or two. We have already gone one decade with no warming despite sharply rising CO2 levels. It looks like the models are wrong! How much credence is global warming going to get if the period with no warming extends to 15, 20 or 30 years?
Yes, sorry, I was referring to American Hunters.
As for the change in temperature to come, I remember as a LITTLE kid, being on the hind end of the "Global Coolin!" phase in which we were causing the next ice age.
Now we're causing temperatures to go up and we're all going to die from the intense heat.
There is never a shortage of evil people willing to panic people for the sake of making a quick buck, nor is there a shortage of people just educated enough to be dangerous, since they believe what these snake oil salesmen are saying.
This winter was one of the coldest since we've been measuring winters.
Yet there is man made global warming?
It snowed in late April and Early May across the midwest.
Yet there is man made global warming?
On Earth Day, an Earth Day outdoor event to tell people about how cars increase man made global warming had to be moved indoors because of a blizzard.
Yet there is man made global warming?
Al Gore doesn't believe in man made global warming, or else he'd have changed his lifestyle.
I don't know or care if global warming is true or not. I still don't see how it helps the earth or our physical well being to be using chemicals, Styrofoam, and finite resources without an alternate plan in place. Even if global warming is complete bullshit, chemicals in the water end up in our food and in our bodies. Styrofoam is hazardous to the people who work in its plants, and it fills up landfills. (For the purposes of this comment, Styrofoam is representative of several products that are bad for the world, like PVC and other plastics). So, while I may be skeptical about global warming, I am convinced of the need to live like it IS true, simply because it is better for us health-wise.
http://www.progressiveu.org/blog/ediblewoman
Well, alot of misinformation exists.
Plastic DOES break down quickly, MUCH more quickly than people think.
However, thanks to illinformed landfill policy, it is instead concentrated and buried.
Plastic does not stand up to sunlight well, and if it is mixed with some dirt, it breaks down within a few months to a year or two.
Another big danger, speaking of chemicals, is this new Congressional push for everyone to use flourescent lightbulbs from now on, because it is 'better for the environment.'
Yet those bulbs not only contain toxic chemicals, but by forcing everyone to use them, they will be concentrated in landfills. That is counterproductive to those who pushed such legislation to begin with.
I've wondered about the disposal of those bulbs, too. There are recycling centers all over for them, but I wonder what gets recycled, and what happens to the mercury?
http://www.progressiveu.org/blog/ediblewoman
Recycling centers just concentrate the pollutants.
While I recognize the cost savings in electricity, I do oppose the Congressional action that is now going to require that we use that.
It isn't the government's job to tell us what kind of light bulb we can use in our home.
It is also not the Government's job to require that we recycle.
There have been cases recently of recycling centers having problems disposing of the toxic chemicals. I believe (don't quote me) that one got caught in the act of dumping them.
I have never heard styrofoam linked to global warming before. I don't generally approve of our throwaway society and if we are going to throw something away I much prefer it be wax paper rather than styrophoam. We are in agreement there.
I have no problem with conservative living and conserving the environment because I am a conservative. I often find that conserving the environment also benefits me economically and I particularly like that nexxus. I've added insulation to every house I have ever owned (and saved money). I recycle aluminum (and get paid for it). I leave my truck parked unless I need it and drive my fuel efficient beater Honda instead (and save fuel and put wear and tear on a less valuable vehicle). Almost every light bulb in my house except a couple that I read by are flourescent (and I save money). And I grow a huge organic garden (and save money and enjoy a healthier lifestyle and have gifts for my friends).
I think we can find a lot of common ground on the importance of not needlessly trashing our environment. In my lifetime, we have made enormous progress in that respect and the United States is much clearner then it was when I was a kid. We used to have rivers that caught on fire and a couple of the Great Lakes were so polluted that they were practically sterile. The worst of that is behind us. But there is more to do and there is plenty of room for more conservation.
But my understanding is that global warming is supposedly caused by CO2 which is that gas we exhale from our lungs and which plants breath in the process of photosynthesis. Until a few years ago, CO2 was considered to be harmless. The evidence is mounting that it still should be.
What I object to is being manipulated with lies. And I particularly hate having those lies be a basis for making me pay taxes or otherwise lower my standard of living or making me be poorer or making me subject to some non-elected world government. The evidence is starting to mount that the CO2 as a cause of global warming just isn't true.
I'll join you in trying to live cleaner if you'll join me in debunking the obvious lies. Like the artic ice thing where above I was able to cite historical evidence that what occurred last summer was not particularly unusual and had happened twice but more severely in the last hundred years and both before we started omitting large amounts of CO2.
When the story this blog is based on is repeated ad nauseum without the historical context of previous times when there has been similar thaws, it is simply fear mongering and propaganda aimed at manipulating a stupid, ill-educated population. (I'll note here that I don't blame the blogger for repeating that lie because given the irresponsibility of the media and the scientifice and educational elites, it is very difficult to even know those facts which I cited because nobody is telling the public the WHOLE truth.) Given that the Arctic ice has melted twice within 100 years and given that neither of those instances was caused by human CO2 emmissions and given that the polar bears did not go extinct after either of those two instances, there is simply no evidence that the current epsiode of melting was human caused or that it posed any catastrophic threat to polar bears.
I would think that as a teacher you would be opposed to deliberate distorition of history and science with partial facts. I would hope that you would want the populace to be provided with the truth so that we could make informed decisions rather than be manipulated into making decisions based on fear and half truths. The truth could very well turn out to be that there is nothing harmful about CO2. And it might not. The jury is out and let the chips fall where they will. But there is no reason that educated people should allow half-truths to be repeatedly cited as evidence without challenge merely because we agree with the greater agenda. That is just dishonest.
I linked it to environmental impact related to the chemicals involved in its production and disposal.
If I ever have to teach second graders about global warming, I will certainly teach it as one of many theories. Since Communication Arts and Literature will be my focus area, I don't know that you will ever have to worry about my stance on global warming.
http://www.progressiveu.org/blog/ediblewoman
Given how Al Gore's propaganda film has been shown in every type of class, I wouldn't be suprised if you had to deal with it no matter what you teach.
There have been cases of english classes, math classes and even history classes showing this film.
I think showing this film and then an opposing documentary would be an excellent way to introduce a major research paper or debate unit. But show it to second graders, and you've got 30 squirmy wormies on your hands for an hour and a half. That would be silly.
http://www.progressiveu.org/blog/ediblewoman
I would agree, but that is not what is being done. Instead, the film is shown and then students write papers on it.
Some schools have taken on the 'duty' of instructing children as to how to get their parents to change their lifestyle to fight off global warming as predicted by Al Gore.
Opposing viewpoints are not popular in Schools, except for the 'exercise' of debating.
