Waiting in the long line of procrastinators. Everyone thought of going to Wal- Mart at the last minute to get their lover something for Valentines Day. My presence was only needed due to the fact that I had to make a homemade cake for someone’s birthday.Holding this stuff becomes a task as my hands started sweating and end up dropping the items. I pick them up. It’s not an easy task especially when you are pregnant. My back aches, feet hurt, and all of a sudden, here comes some kids. They start asking people if they can cut.
First of all, what makes them any better than the people that have already earned a spot in the elongated line? Yeah we all came in at the last minute and knew the consequence would be to wait in a long line. But who has the right to cut in front of the line?
I could see if these people knew someone, had a family member waiting in their spot, saw a disabled person, or an old lady or man. But the majority of these people are not in that situation. They just cut on in. But at least they ask to cut the line right?
Every job I have worked at has had this occurrence unravel. Most cashiers just ring the customer up knowing they cut in front of others. But for me, I will gladly tell you to wait your turn and please present yourself to the back of the line.
The first excuse they use is: “I only have a few items.” Who doesn’t? Other people have a few items too, but that doesn’t mean they can cut because they can shorten the line with their fast transactions.
“Can I cut in front of you? I’m in a hurry!” Who isn’t in a hurry either. Why do you think everyone is in line? Even the speedy checkout or 10 items or less is overfilled with customers that are in need of a fast check out.
“ Well my son is sick…. Well my girlfriend will be mad if I don’t hurry…….” Excuse after excuse after excuse. These people can think of a trillion things just so you can fulfill their want: To cut in line.
It doesn’t make it any better when others let people barge in front of them. Yes they used their manners to get what they want. Yes they have lesser items than you. Yes they pulled out the sympathy card, but still, you earned your spot. Don’t let others run over what you stood so hard for!
So these two kids ask to cut in front of this guy. He lets them. I am just amazed at how he felt like he could not stand up for himself. Then some more kids come by and ask a lady that’s two people behind this generous guy if they can cut. She lets them! This is making my blood boil. So should I go up there and say “Because I’m pregnant, I can’t stand that long and I will faint if I don’t hurry up and check out?
As the first two kids begin approaching the cashier, they are grinning from ear to ear. They have mastered their way through the line. They just had to pretend to be respectful about it.
Now they are in front of the cashier. She says “Hi how are you today? “ One kid says “Good.” Then she asks “So you two want me to ring these items up for you?” They say “Yeah. Thanks.” She says, “Well we have a problem.” They say “What do you mean?” “You see I can’t check out these items for you because of one thing.” The kids start getting mad and ask her what the problem is. She says “The thing is you cut in line. So get you’re a@# in the back of the line and wait like everybody else! You thought I didn’t see you huh?” Their smiles turned from confusion to enragement with touch of disappointment.
A smile revealed upon my face. Satisfaction Guaranteed.

I avoid Walmart at the end and begining of each month for that very reason.
It was nice when I worked second shift as I could go to walmart at 2 am and never have lines.
There have been times that I got a cart, but only ended up getting half a dozen or so items... sometimes if there is someone behind me holding stuff in their hands, I'll let them put their stuff in my cart while we wait.
I don't let people go ahead of me as I've had to wait so it is fair that they should wait as well, but I don't mind helping out those ahead or behind me.
I do, however, get a bit disgruntled that they have SO many lanes, but only keep a few open. For a while, a walmart by me had a little button you could push if there were more than 3 in line, and a new lane would be opened. Apparently it got popular, they got rid of those buttons.
SOMETIMES, for a while, they had pre scanners, where they would scan everything in your cart, even bag it, then give you a printout to give the cashier, who would scan it in and then take your money. I thought that was a GREAT idea, but I can see where there would be a shoplifting issue with adding things to the bags afterwards.
Then there are the checkout lanes where you check yourself out. Kmart made these popular on a national level, as a way to reduce costs on labor. Then they had a HUGE rise in shoplifing, so they got one person per lane or two to watch over them. There went that labor savings. (Not to mention the ability people have to drive to the store, but be unable to follow directions on a screen on how to scan and pay for items on a self-checkout lane.) Unfortunately, while Walmart has them, the walmart in my area has them closed during the rush times (which is when you need them the most)
What I've started to do is go to walmart for just a FEW items (less than 10) and then buy ammunition or a movie, so that I 'have to' check out at the sports or electronics desk, then they scan the rest of my stuff as well.
However, that is now starting to become popular.
I know what you mean . In Texas, the walmarts have self check out lines except one. I call it the ghetto walmart because the majority of the people that work there are ignorant at times and ghetto. That is the closest walmart to me and they don't have the walmart self check out lanes. They have alot of lanes, but only 5 cashiers on the floor. Trust me they are fully staffed. I try to do the same thing as you with the electronics and that line is packed too.
Walmart has changed over the years.
I remember when they prided themselves on having American Made products and pushed the "Buy American!" idea.
Saddly, people would wather have chinese made TP that costs half as much. But that is another issue.
I actually like walmart, I just wish they'd iron out their checkout issues. Unfortunately Walmart can do nothing good in the eyes of the media (especially the pro-union groups)
They're one of the few department stores that have a standing company policy to allow concealed carry permitholders to carry.
Most target stores have a sign that says "It is a felony to carry a weapon" inside the store which, for most states, is utter bunk.
