Some question whether or not euthanasia is "right". Well personally, I feel that it should be a choice left up to the person who would be receiving it and them alone. If they are not in their right state of mind to make the decision on their own, then they should be left alone. It should not be left up to a family member. Because you never know what that person really wants. I think that people who may be living as a "vegetable" should be given the choice simply because some may not want to live if they can't do things for themselves and feel like they have no quality of life. But I don't think that the choice should be made for them. Sometimes when people are paralyzed are in a coma, the choice is given to a family member and I don't think that part is right. Someone who is a coma can't make that choice for themselves. What happens if a family member goes along with it? Then they end up spending their whole lives wondering if they made the right decision and if they were actually helping that person. Both someone who is paralyzed and someone who is in a coma have a chance of getting better, whether it's a large one or not. I've known someone who was paralyzed from the waist down. And the doctor told his mother that he wouldn't walk anymore. Some may have felt that without the ability to walk, that life was useless. So they may make the choice to use euthanasia. But even though the doctor said he wouldn't be able to walk, with the grace of God, he is. He may use a walker but it's still better than having to remain in a wheel chair your whole life.

Being paralyzed from the waist down is very different from being in a persistent vegetative state, where you have lost all higher brain function, and only live because your brain stem is managing your bodily functions, to some degree. Someone in PVS is no longer able to think, let alone make decisions for themselves. So, if they don't have a living will, which most people don't, then it has to be left up to the next-of-kin to decide what is best for the individual.

I'm not 100% sure either way. A person in a persistent "vegetative" state is unable to make the decision on their own. Usually I think those people cannot think or respond to stimuli. So if it's not left up to a family member then there's no one to make the decision. And someone who is severely paralyzed, if they do decide they don't want to live isn't that selfish? They may not be able to move, but others can still benefit from their experiences. What about their children & other loved ones?.......I think ultimatley it should be left up to God, not us.
-Leave the world a better place than you came to it.
Taking someone off life support is leaving it up to God. By putting them on life support in the first place, your interfering with the natural cycle of things. In this case, death.
