It is basically sex.

Some schools have put a ban on the bump and grind. At Fayetville-Manlius High School in a Syracuse, NY suburb they have cancelled dances until the dirty dancing stops. My opinion? Good. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy going to dances and dancing like that- to an extent. Sometimes, it goes to far. I see many people basically having dry sex on the dance floor, and other people imatating it because they don't want to seem weird. I know I have personally felt obligated to dance far beyond what I consider acceptable just because other people were. Now, I know what you're thinking, don't be a sheep, be a leader but when you're in a situation when you have a few hundered wriggling bodies all around you, you just get caught up. On a normal day I don't let anyone touch me, but at dances it's like a free for all. I completely agree with the principals banning the dances. I'm not saying hey let's do ballroom dance or have 3 inches between each person, but there do need to be limits. We aren't auditioning for a rap video for crying out loud.   http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/17/nyregion/17grind.html

I dont think many other people do it just because they are joining the bandwagon. The kids who are not comfortable with it dont do it or dont come to the dances. But I do believe that its having dry sex on the floor, but its kind of the time period. What else are kids going to do on the floor if not dirty dance?

I agree. I have never danced like that just because everyone else around me were doing it too. And if a guy that I did not want to dance with came behind me I did not dance with him. There is no obligation. But it is what is popular right now. At one point a few years ago, line dances were popular and everyone was line dancing at dances and trying to make up their own. When my friends and I went we got in a circle and danced; nothing like the nastiness that I see currently.
