Hello web-based bloggers, this is Adam58 bringing you the inside scoop in to the dram a that has unfolded within the Democratic party in regards to the states of Michigan and Florida.
With the race for the Democratic nomination being one of the closest in the history of the Democratic party, it has become a necessity that every state counts for thew overall delegate counts. However, there are currently two states that will not have delegate representation at the Democratic National Convention: Michigan and Florida. Why do these states not get to have delegate representation you might ask? Well the answer is simple, both states disobeyed party guidelines by moving their primaries up in the calendar year which is strictly forbidden by the Democratic Party.
There is a firestorm of debate going on within the media and the respective democratic candidates campaigns as to the overturn of the Democratic National Convention's decision in regards to the disqualification of delegates from both states. In one corner you have Hillary Clinton who is arguing that the delegates from both states should be allowed to be represented at the convention. The reason for this decision by the Clinton campaign is that she would receive the majority of delegates in both Florida and Michigan which would put her at a delegate advantage over Barack Obama. The only problem with Hillary's request is that she actually broke a party mandate when she campaigned in both states which actually means she should be penalized for her misconduct. On the other side of the aisle you have Barack Obama, who has really not voiced his opinion on the issue other than to say that he believes that each state should be represented.
It is my personal opinion that the votes in Michigan and Florida should count and delegates should be assigned according to proportionate numbers in Florida and in Michingan each candidate should be given half of the delegates. The delegate positioning for these states really doesn't matter because they could change their vote at the Democratic National Convention anyway. It would be fair for either candidate if we did it that way.
As always I leave you with an overarching question: Do you beleive the delegates in Michigan and Florida should count in the Democratic party Elections, and if so do you agree with my plan for the assignment of those delegates?

Being from Michigan, I think we should be represented by the full number of delegates. I don't really understand why we were penalized anyway. There are still people here, and in Florida, and our voices deserve to be heard just as much as any other state's.
Well if you are from Michigan or Florida and are a voter, etc. I feel sorry for you because, well, simply put, your representatives broke the rules. The rules are the backbone of American society, and we have to follow them. If we don't enforce the rule, then there is no point to having them.
But what I feel one can do is put that issue on the campaign when the next election for your elected officials come, knock them down for not allowing your guys voices to be heard. This is a democracy, and all voices are important, and show that to them by voting the rule-breakers out of office

Well, I voted in Michigan. But it's really lead me to a sense of distaste for my party leaders. Knocking down their doors for stupid choices of times past does little good now. While I blame MI Dems, I really blame national Dems. National Dems could have easily handled this in a way that didn't affect the end result of voter disenfranchisement. And I really, really blame a party mandate that would prevent Obama from putting his name down here. Believe me; I'm halfway toward a professional degree that doesn't involve a life in politics. I don't have the time or the resources to bear responsibility for the stupidity of Democratic party leaders (especially when I'm now less likely to feel allegiance to the Democratic party in general).
