I think I have been fairly open about my distaste for some aspects of Hillary Clinton's candidacy. But I feel like I should make it a bit clearer that I don't dislike the majority of her platform points, nor will I be completely devastated if she edges out Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination. I, for one, am proud to be living through an era where a woman and a black man are on the same political stage as the politically typical "old white Christian man." And I have (surprisingly) found myself enraged and defensive over much of the coverage of her campaign.
On one hand, the tired distraught woman shows some emotion at a small campaign gathering and people call her sensitive and weak. The rest of the time she's "shrill" or "whiny" or "cold". What gives? How the hell is she supposed to escape from the double standard?
And don't even get me started on this guy's ill-informed misogynistic take on her New Hampshire "tears". I swear to God I wish I knew him so I could knock those little headphones off his bald head and scream some sense into his ears.
I would take this opportunity to go on a rant about the use of the word "bitch" to describe Clinton, but Tina Fey did it so beautifully (and HILARIOUSLY), I will let her take over for a few moments.
Tina, you slay me.
So, I had been wondering how, almost NINETY YEARS since women have had the right to vote for president, people still don't seem to think they are qualified enough to BE president. And then I saw this clip, from the lovely puppets ladies of Fox News. And I understood.
I think a little piece of me just died inside.
Until WOMEN are willing to stand-up to the gender-norm chauvinist MEN in our society, it won't stop. Granted, those women are Fox News employees, which must mean they ditched their dignity long ago. However, I still have a hard time grasping the idea that someone who is obviously somewhat intelligent in some arenas can be so close-minded and have so little respect for yourself.
Perhaps my feminist hat is on just a little too tight lately, but I can't help but get agitated. What do you think? Am I overreacting, or right on point?

I knew I liked Tina Fey. But this video made me love her. You are not too feminist. I agree with you. I'm there with you. :) Umm, I actually haven'et been able to watch the 2nd video right now... I'm not really in a place where I can play sound... but I will!!! I just wanted to say now, while I have the chance, that you are good, so good, and so right. There's really not anything left for me to say... You said it already. :)
