The pressures set upon youth

A college education is an important step to take when you are young. Having no education can result in unhappiness with your life because you really have not achieved what everyone expects you to achieve. While growing up I was pressure as to what I need to do after high school. But once I got to high school, everyone stopped talking about it. I believe that the continuance of discussing the prospects that you have with furthering your education is an important time to spend with your child. While being a teenager, many kids want to just go and do whatever they like to do with their friends. And frankly, your friends are everything to you when you are in school. But in reality, when you graduate high school and throughout your lifetime, it is very rare to keep in contact with them, because everyone has their own life and have families and things to do. I know that I used to have quite a few friends, but once school ended, so did our friendship. There is only one friend that I keep in contact with that I actually care about.

I have witnessed with my younger brother that friends are very important to the high schoolers, for some reasons that I still don't understand. I figure it this way: your friends are not going to be paying your bills when you are older, so what is the point? Some friends, as in my brothers case, aren't a good influence on others. My brother has gotten into trouble with the law, drinking, drugs and most disheartening lack of concentration and motivation for school. There is so much pressure in fitting in while in high school that I believe that it clouds the real reason why you are there in the first place.

I wish the best to the high schoolers who are in the same position as my brother. But family can't really do anything about it, unless the teenager themselves want to change their life.

Sometimes you wish you could push the reality of things onto other people but there are some who must live and learn. I did well in high school, graduating with honors, but I still looked back and thought about all the things I could've done differently. Better. Knowing that and seeing people who are on a "worse" track than I was I wish that I could shake them and let them know. College isn't for everyone but I think everyone needs to have some kind of goal or track once they finish high school.
