There's no hiding it: I'm a Christian. Christian doesn't really have that great of a connotation for some reason or another. Some people think Christians are close-minded, holier-than-thou hypocrites. Others just don't care. When it comes to politics, "Christian" has the tendency to equate to "conservative Republican." While it is common for Christians to have more right-winged views, not so with all Christians.
Facebook is the latest craze on college campuses and within Facebook, there are Facebook groups. My friend started a group called, "Liberal Minded Christians Inc." He's a smart guy. He debates well and is probably one of the most liberal Christians I know. There's nothing wrong with that. Naturally, he invited me to the group. It sat in my group invitations for a while as I pondered whether or not I was a "liberal minded Christian." My political views are scattered and still forming. It's not so much that I can't decide for myself what I am for or against, it's mostly because I don't really care.
I asked my friend if he thought I was liberal minded and his response was, "If your willing to talk about Karl Marx in such a light that he was merely misled but a good guy none-the-less then yes." (I swear I'll get to my views on Karl Marx someday.) That was enough to persuade me to accept the group invitation and sit mindlessly in yet another Facebook group.
The more I thought about it and talked to my friend, I realized that I am far from a liberal minded Christian (aside from the Karl Marx thing).
I don't even know what I am politically. I think "apathetic" might be the right word.

Being a Christian means believing in Jesus Christ. Period. Only uninformed people assume a Christian is equal to a Republican. Not that there's anything wrong with being a Republican.
My friends say that I'm very libral, definitely Democratic, being I grew up in the heart of farming country surrounded by blue collar workers. Yet I was born and raised Christian, and I definitely follow my beliefs, but in my own way. I'm not strictly adherent to the dogma but I believe in my own way... which I feel is what being a Libral Minded Christian is.
Well, in many cases if you understand the predominate christian idea then liberal christian is rather ... paradoxial at least on the social issues.
I am Christian and fairly conservative. But I make special note to always draw the line between my religion and the free country of America.
I am pro-life, and believe abortion is just ridiculous. I equate it to slavery, slavery was once illegal despite the fact it was so purely against the consitition. The constition is built on LIFE, liberty, and freedom. Terminating (AKA murdering) someone before they've even had the chance to breath for the first time is constitional?
Gay marriage... well, just look at the basics of marriage in the first place. The core idea of it, not the current idea of it but the original core idea of what marriage is and it directly points you to religion. The cultural idea of it has altered immensly and it holds a lot of governmental ideas, cultural ideas, and also legal benefits and the works. I believe despite my religion that anyone should be ble to do whatever they want to do as long as they are not violating or blocking my rights in some way. I'm a bit tied on this issue, because I think it is kind of shoving their agenda down my throat to sabotage something that I hold in high esteem in my religion. Yet, I believe if they want to get married that's fine... its not violating my rights too much so go get your own little homo union but stay out of my marriage.
Just an example that I'm not a liberal yet I am not a sold out christian fundamentalist because christian fundamentals and free country don't always mix perfectly.

Yes I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, but I consider myself a disciple of Jesus Christ, rather than a Christian. The term Christian means little more to some people than Democrat or Republican. My term says it much better, I adhere to the teachings of My Lord and Savior, and genuinely attempt to bring salvation to the lost. I am not holier than thou, in fact, I am a chief sinner who needs but does not deserve forgiveness. That is what the message I bring is composed of. "No-one deserves the forgiveness and love that Jesus has given us. Not our deeds, but His love alone has saved us."
