This morning I got online and was checking out some of the news sites when I ran across this article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18130785/?GT1=9246
Now I love the really akward news stories that American media thinks are important enough to share with the rest of us but this one takes the cake. Thousands of cute little fluffy rabbits all over a European highway, of course everyone should know about it! That might even be the most important thing anyone hears all day!
As cute and fuzzy as a bunny may be, I can't help but ask, Isn't there some REAL news to be told? Aren't there some people with stories more profound than that of thousands of rabbits? Last time I checked there was still a war going on, did that end and nobody told me!?!
The truth is that whild there are important things to educate the public on, the media would rather fill our days with fluff. What happened to real news? Well people got sick of hearing about what was going on and instead chose to pay attention to two kinds of news brodcasts: the cute and fluffy, or the scary and bloody.
Think about it. What was on the local news last night? Probably a leading story dealing with some horendous and terrifying crime either in your town or in Iraq, the weather, the sports, and then a cute and light hearted story about either an animal or a little kid making the world a better place. And it isn't just the local news anymore, it's all of the mainstream news sources. To hear about anything substantial you have to go out of your way to find the sort of news that actually matters.
Now unless these rabbits plan on curing AIDS, ending world hunger, and bringing peace to the Middle East, I say bring me some real news.
