"Fat" Man gets Thrown Out and Banned from Buffet

Full, if you can call it that, story here.

That's right. A "fat" man was thrown out of an all you can eat buffet. The man in question, Mr. Ricky Labit, is roughly 6'3" tall and about 275 lbs. Now, don't get me wrong, that's a big man. But is he fat? I don't really think so. I'm 6'1" (on a good day, 6'0" otherwise) and weigh about 250lbs. So, he's a little bigger than I am. But fat? I'd have to see pictures.

It all began when Mr. Labit was eating dinner with one of his cousins-in-law, or some such relative. The restaurant has an all you can eat buffet and I'm going to go out on a limb and guess it was Chinese food (Manchuria Buffet? The Owner can't speak English? Frog Legs?!). The waitress hands these two men a bill for $50 when, as a patron of the restaurant, Mr. Labit knows it should only be about $25. He then claims that the waitress says, and I quote, "Y'all fat. Y'eat too much." Mr. Labit then claims that he said, "I ain't that fat, I only weigh 277." Needless to say, this started a big scene. Eventually, the police were called and the dispute was settled. But not before the restaurant comp-ed the bill, Mr. Labit paid for his meal (I know...free food and I wouldn't care what they'd have done to me), and the restaurant BANNING these men.

Now, the restaurant claims that this exceedingly large bill was due to the fact that Mr. Labit preferred to dine on some of the more expensive seafood items. As I understand it, there was never anything that said, "Seafood costs extra, bitches." So, there the restaurant is in the wrong.

But fuck, this man brings good money to the restaurant! He was eating there THREE TIMES A FUCKING WEEK. Three! That's more than I go to Starbucks, folks. So not only was the restaurant making some cash off this moron, but they now, for some reason, have the gall to insult the customer to his face?

I don't think that eating ALL YOU CAN EAT is a good thing. Sure, it's fun to "pig-out" from time to time or "splurge" and get the large fry, but do you really need to eat fast food thrice a week? No. But this raised a question from the blonde on Fox and Friends this morning: Do we need to make all you can eat buffets more expensive to keep people from eating at them?

Who the fuck does she think she is? We live in a semi-free nation where we are "free" to do as we please, for the most part, and eat whatever the hell we want. Who is the government or any other authoritative body to tell us that we can't eat something?

Do I agree that this man was eating too much and is going to be in trouble, health wise, later on? Yeah.

Do I think the restaurant was in the right telling him that he is fat and charging him double? No.

Do I think they should have called him fat? Yeah.

Do I think they should have banned him from the restaurant? No, but the waitress should be fired.

You do not bite the hand that feeds. I hope Mr. Lard-ass sues for discrimination. It would make me smile.

You're one confusing little man. Do you think he's fat or not?

It depends on his body type really. If he's like all lard 275 then it's easy to call him fat. But some people are just big guys naturally which makes it a bit harder to call them fat. I'm round 6'3 and weigh 250ish so just off that you could say "oh your fat" but then you see me and I'm just big. Lol not saying I couldn't afford to lose a few but there is a difference in body types.

I know :) My husband is 6'8" and weight 270. He's not fat, just a big man. A really big man lol.

I was just wondering if Nick would please make up his mind. He said not fat, then he said he was fat. I need consistency!

I'd be amazed if I could get DOWN to 250. Even if I became VERY fit... I think i'd still tip the scales around 270.

Remind me not to get on your guys' bad side. Or to hide behind my boyfriend if you do. He's 6'5", and apparently a really skinny 230ish compared to you all...

Gotta play to your strenghts lol. He's got me beat in height which means his reach is prolly longer and he weighs less so I'd say he should come at me with quick jabs and try to stay light on his feet. Cuz once I get him close lol, he's owned hahaha. Jk but you never know.

He was the quarterback and captain of his high school's football team, if it makes any difference.

Lol sure means my job used to be protecting people like him. Also when I weighed about 20 more pounds though. Ask him if he'd ever want his offensive line to turn around and pick a fight with him...and that's me lol.

I never said he was fat. I think I made it clear that I don't know. I did say he probably wasn't fat. But, it really depends. I do, however, think that some people should just be called fat to be called fat...lol. I love name calling, it's...like sex!

by current BMI standards, Jackie Chan is considered 'overweight' and Governor Arnold S from CA is considered "Obese"

The question I have is did that fat man sing or do something quirky?
If he wasn't being rude why did they pick a fight.

Sounds like he was just picked out of the crowd.

It was just because the waitress felt the man was fat. I don't know what to tell you, man.

If this guy is fat, than I'm whale-sized!

I said (not on this blog) long ago that fat people are becoming the new 'smoker'

I think I said it back when the airline companies (that kept making seats smaller to get more people on a flight) announced that fat people would have to pay for 2 tickets in order to fly. (convienant that they made the seats smaller and THEN charged double if someone couldn't fit in them)

Smoking can't become more demonized, apart from a full nationwide ban as some countries are poking around with doing (Germany I think?)

So, they turn to fat people. In england, some are caling for a 'fat tax' . . . if you are 'overweight' then you have to pay a special tax to the government.

Sound familiar? Oh yeah... tobacco tax.

Well being fat and smoking are two very different things. Being a smoker hurts others if you smoke in a publc place, which has been proven. Being fat hurts only you, and nobody else...so they are two different things.

Member of the Progressive U Alumni Association

Oh, I agree, but they are laying the groundwork nonetheless.

What will happen is the people who call for the tax will say that being fat DOES hurt others because of the extra medical costs (universal healthcare, after all) and that even though the poor do not pay extra for the difference between what they pay and what the receive, the fat should. (now, keep in mind, in the United States, the obese tend to be poorer, whereas in the rest of the world, the overweight are the richer ones. . . so this tax will greatly affect the poor)

They tried, briefly, to make soda the new cigarrettes, but that didn't fly, so now they're going after fat people.

After all.... they're... FAT . . . who on earth would want to be seen with a FAT person?!

disclaimer: I am fat. I, often, find people who are unwilling to even LOOK at me as we cross in the hallways. I've found out that in at least a few specific cases, they've said "I wouldn't be friends with a fat person."

There have even been polls where people have said that they'd rather be blind or deaf or lose a limb than be fat.

Make no mistake... they've taxed the smokers for all they are worth, and smoking is going down.... so now they need a new group of people to turn into second-class tax over-payers.

Well... wow. I'm not sure that I followed hardly any of that. Perhaps it had to do with all the swearing, name-calling, and inconsistency. I mean really, do you think the guy is fat or not? At the beginning you said you couldn't know, you'd need a picture. But by the end you called him "Mr. Lard-ass."

"A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take everything you have." - Barry Goldwater
"... the ostensible means [diversity] of acheiving a desired end [equality] had become the end itself." - Clarence Thomas

It's to demonstrate the bigotry the man faced and how the media is trying to paint on picture while we clearly don't know anything about tihs man. I don't know one way or the other if this man is fat, nor do I care.

I love Buffet! I don't even eat that much, but the thought of me eating anything I want in the restaurant for a fixed price is quite attractive. Maybe that buffet should charge people by hours and not the amount of food their customers consume. It's quite rude to tell how much the customer can eat at a buffet. It's not a buffet if they charge their customers for eating more than average!

Then again, how much can a person eat?!

Member of the Progressive U Alumni Association

I agree. I'm a big guy. fat even. I go to buffets. I don't eat 'alot'

I stick to one small plate and a soda or two.

I should pay more because I am fat?

Now, business owners are free to do as they wish... but they also have to face the consequences for their actions.

fewer people going to their restaurant is a good example of that.
