I discovered a loophole in our government, and I'm sure its not only affecting me! My insurance is government issued aka Medicaid. I have a genetic disease called Cystic FIbrosis and my monthly medicine bill totals to thousands of dollars. Not including the delivery fees and all that good stuff. Thanks to Medicaid, my medicine and frequent doctors visits have been totally free. My 19th birthday is coming up, and I will be out of insurance. The only way I can be 19 and have Medicaid, is if I am pregnant. Don't get me wrong, the prego's need their money, and care, BUT HELLO so do I. In order to be approved for Medicaid and over the age of 19, I need to receive a social security check, that kind of verifies that I have serious problems. Well, I don't approve for SS checks, so what can I do? I can work at a place that provides insurance for part time employees, but with out a car, thats an issue. Anyone else affected by this loophole? I must be poor to receive it and my minimum wage income is considered too much! I can barely buy a steak dinner with my bi-weekly pay checks how am I suppose to afford my medicines? Ya know, the medicines that keep me alive?!

Most States have some sort of "bridge assistance" for situations like yours, and many include at least some limited transportation assistance. You need to contact your State's Medicaid Provider, and ask them what provision are in place to address your situation. You may also want to contact some of the private organizations that offer assistance to C.F. patients (such as The Reaching Out Foundation). Still, there may not be a program for which you qualify, and if that is the case then you just have to buckle down and do whatever you have to do to survive, just like any other adult. Hopefully, you have family and friends that can help. If not, that sucks, but it's just the ugly reality of the situation sometimes. I hope you find the assistance you need.
Good luck,
percivale

I am uninsured with medical expenses that add up to almost $1000 every month, so I understand how difficult it is to make ends meet with such outrageous medical bills. I guess it's just a part of life...
