how green is your laundry??

I recently took a test on the sierra website on how green your laundry is and i found some interesting facts

Such as but not only:

90 percent of the energy used for for washing is heating the water.By using cold water you can reduce your water heating bill by 13 percent. Since most laundry detergent companies have switched their products to work well in cold water....why not save some money..and the planet.

Cleaning your lint filter before every use will decrease the amount of time needed to dry your clothing

sorting you clothing by weight such as towels with towels and socks with socks before drying will decrease your electric bill by 5 percent

over drying your clothing can cause them to deteriorate more quickly

and of course using newer machines that are energy efficient will also decrease your bills while helping the planet

Everyone should check out this site to find out more facts on making your laundry more green, and to see where you rank so far.

also, not on this site but important, although most detergent companies have removed Phosphate from their products, check the label to be sure. Phosphate is a harmful chemical to the environment and inturn to use. Phosphate causes algal bloom and causes an oxygen deficit which leads to amoxia in aquatic life.

Fragrances in detergents...as well as other soaps are also harmful to the environment

I've never even thought about green laundry before! That's incredable that every little thing in our lives has such an impact on the environment.
