Okay, so I understand that there can be issues with websites like Myspace, but I think it is all being pushed so far by media and overprotective parents. I, for one, have a myspace account, and thus far have not had problems. The site has a lot of protection. Myspace allows the user to decide who he/she would like to be friends with, and they can even set their profiles to "private", which only allows friends to see their page.
The issue of sexual predators on the internet has been an issue for a long time. I remember when I was a kid and AOL came out. There were so many reports of sexual predators, kidnappers, etc. Again, I had an AOL account--no problems.
I think it all boils down to the kid. If they are informed to not share personal information, or to avoid meeting people from online, there aren't as many issues. Sexual predators exist, whether they find people online or just walking through the public mall.
