Should two people from the same sex be allowed to get married? This is a debate that has been going on for many years.
Personally, I'm not for it but I'm not against it either. As long as they keep it behind closed doors, they can do whatever they want. I don't care (however, I know that some don't so is that what offends people? I know I think its kinda gross when they showcase it). I know that some people are offended by it (why I have no freaking clue), and I know some people that support it because of freedom. I can definitely understand why people support it because its freedom of choice. I don't understand why people are offended by it. If two people are in love and it has nothing to do with you, why would you be offended? That just confuses me.
I have a couple of friends that are lesbian, I have a few friends that are gay, and I have a few friends that are bisexual. They know not to hit on me because its never gonna happen. Its just their personal choices. Now, I know that someone will reply to this and say "you claim that you're christian. why aren't you against it???". Before someone does, let me say this now. I know that I'm supposed to say "gay marriage is wrong..." but if God truly did not want two guys or two girls to get together, he would not have made that attraction possible at all.
If you have ever seen the movie Rent (or have seen it on stage), you'll know what I'm talking about in the next few lines. There is a man in that movie who fell in love with another man, Angel. Angel is a drag queen. So the guy did not know right away that Angel was actually a man, but he fell in love with her anyway. He fell in love with Angel's heart, not her body parts. Keeping this in mind......
I don't want to start another debate. But I do want to know your opinions. I want to know::
1.Are you for it or against or, like me, don't care because it doesn't affect you? why?
2. If you are offended by it or know someone who is and why you would be offended by something that doesn't affect you?
Please answer these questions if you reply.

I am all for it. I am a 23 year old lesbian and christian. Unlike these other bloggers i don't have a lot of big words and intelligent things to say but i have my feelings and i know a little bit about how the world works. My reasoning on being for it...well one...because i am gay...two...to most people, it is not about the paperwork that says hey we are legally married just to be married. I want to have that security that if me or my significant other were in the hospital or in any kind of crisis that we would have the same rights as a straight couple. I am not trying to "change" the constitution. I just want to have a normal family life as any other american. Also I believe it is our right...hello we are in love with someone but we are unable to show it. I am not saying i want to make out with my gf in public because it is not my thing, just as i wouldn't want to see a heterosexual couple all over eachother in the bar. I just think that i should be able to share my life with a woman the same way any other heterosexual man would. Like i said these are just feelings and opinions i have. I don't see how it could be offensive to anyone either...should i be offended by heterosexual couples getting married?
by the way, what would you like for us to keep behind closed doors exactly? i just want to clarify. Does that mean you would rather not see a gay or lesbian couple holding hands in the mall? Because this my dear, could bring up a whole lot more...If i have to watch all the cute heterosexual couples holding hands and kissing there wives on the forehead and putting there arms around them while they walk through the park- why not for the gay community as well? It's called tolerance. Most of the country i think is finally catching up and the younger generations are instilled with that tolerance...however we have a lot of naive people left out there who cannot get past what they were raised to know and believe. Anyway i was just wondering what you meant by "showcasing it". As i said previously, I am not all about the making out and groping and what have you in public...its a little innapropriate especially in a public setting where there may be children. I think it is disrespectful for anyone to display that kind of affection in the public. And yes...Rent was an amazing movie and soundtrack!
the things I'm talking about keeping behind closed doors is the making out and anything more than that.....and that goes for all couples, hetro- or homo-sexual.i don't like seeing it, and like you said, its innapropriate when people are making out in a public place where there are children present.
...then why did you bring it up specifically in a blog about same-sex marriage?

because the blog isn't just about same-sex marriage.....its about same-sex relationships.
...why did you title it, "Gay Marriages-for or against?"
*scratches head*

what does it matter what i put in the blog. everything that i put in that blog goes along with the title. if it didn't go along with it, i wouldn't have put it in there.
...and I'm having a little trouble following what it is that you are trying to say. You position seems to be supportive (for which I am grateful), but it also seems to includes one of those annoyingly subtle-yet-still-discriminatory attitudes that gay people represent some kind of nebulous "them" that does nothing but make out with each other in public places.

I think me and you are just confusing each other. because I don't even remember what it is we're commenting back and forth on now.
Ok, here's my position. I am neutral. What I was saying was, if people from the same sex want to do stuff with each other, that's fine with me. I don't care. I just don't want to know about it.
I'm not against it, because then I would be a hypocrite because I'm friends with a girl is a lesbian and a few guys who are gay and a few friends who are bi.
...sometimes it is amazing how the internet can prove to be such an effective barrier to communication.
Now, I have to ask though...what is it that you "don't want to know about" in a same-sex marriage (or relationship) that you would want to know about in an opposite-sex marriage (or relationship)? I mean, despite what one might see during the media's sensationalism driven coverage of various Pride parades (none of which that I have ever attended could even begin to compare in vulgarity to the yearly heterosexual boob-fest known as Mardi Gras), most gay people aren't humping each other in public. In fact, most gay people that I know are pretty darn cautious about public displays of affection, if for no other reason than it invites the possibility of violent attack.
Why can't the discussion about same-sex marriage ever be about the legal and social merits of same-sex marriage, rather than focusing on an urban mythology that seems to suggest that gay people never do anything but wallow around like a bunch of sex-starved maniacs? Most of us lead pretty normal lives, you know, again despite what you might have seen in the movies.

> I am not trying to "change" the constitution.
I think that one of the most telling facts surrounding the issues of same-sex marriage is that one side of the debate (i.e. the pro-same-sex marriage side) is asking that the Constitution be enforced, and the other side (i.e. the anti-same-sex marriage side) is asking that the constituiton be changed. Nowhere do you hear the argument that "we need to change the Constitution in order to allow same-sex marriages," but the converse argument that "we must change the Constitution in order to prevent same-sex marriage" is a a comman and unintentional (I'm sure) admission by the far right camp that their position is inherently un-Constitutional.

So why does it bother people! Why are there homophobes or whatever? I am dating a guy who's cousin is gay, it doesn't bother me! America is one of the only countries that is affected by such things...we are free yet we judge and push out opinions on others. Personally i could care less, it does not bother me, but why can't people marry whoever they want? If we can do everything else we want...why not this?
