The Brain and The Mind

While having a conversation with one of my more intelligent feinds she made a stement. A statement thathas been used alot, but last night I began to ponder over it. She said"Im' losing my mind." Now I told her that I believed that the mind was not a physical asset but just you train of thought. The brain is the physical componet that held the mind in place.

Now while this topic was interesting we wondered, if a new brain was given to a person do you think that they would still think the same. Saying that because you have a new brain would you still have the same mind and train of thought. Now that interseting.

I wonder and wondered and im still wondering now. Is the mind just a mere  thoughts and ideas and no matter what brain you have you will still think the same? Hum...

Please I would like feedback.

well, i think it's difficult to say, but i would say that no, with a different brain you would be a different person. i'm not a scientist but i can tell you that the majority, if not all, of the factors that determine your personality (memories, learning, genetic things, etc) are housed in a part of your brain--your brain, even though it just seems like a mushy mass of grey goo, is intensely complicated. having anything in it altered could change you as a person entirely.

The closest analogy we have to the brain is the computer. Using that analogy you can think of the brain as the HARDWARE and the mind as the SOFTWARE.

Of course you have to know the limits of any analogy. With a computer you can by a copy of a piece of software and it will pretty much run the same on a variety of computers. You can't buy a premade piece of "mind".

The brain has evolved to program itself. It is called learning. Everything you do contributes to learning and forming the mind.

Furthermore, no two brains have identical CPU's. So two brains can undergo the exact same experiences and still program themselves differently. By that I mean that two different people may learn different lessons from the same experience.

With that in mind [no pun intended], let's look at the question of whether or not you would be a different person if you had a brain transplant. The answer is ABSOLUTELY. The closest you could come to being the same person is for the transplanted brain to have the exact same experiences as your previous brain has had, and even then it would have programmed itself differently.

see Brittnee I told u that everything you do is connected with the brain you already have, so if you were to obtain a new one you would be a completely different person with a whole new train of thought and mind!
