I am conducting a survey for an essay I'm writing on cutting prevention, and I need all the input I can get.
1. When did you start cutting yourself?
2. Did you know anyone who was a cutter before you began?
3. Did you try to fight the urge before you began?
4. What gave you the idea to cut?
5. What situation were you in that you went to such extreme measures?
6. How did you feel after cutting?
7. When you started, was anyone aware that you had started?
8. When did the first person find out? What was your relationship with this person? How did they react?
9. Have you stopped? If so, what made you stop cutting?
10. Have you had any relapses since you decided to stop? How did it make you feel when you did?
11. Did anyone ever tell you before you started that this was a bad thing to do? If so, why did you start anyway?
12. Do you think there was anything that could have prevented you from cutting?
13. Have you shared your experience with anyone in the hopes of keeping them from doing the same?
14. Do you think if someone who had been a cutter and recovered had talked to you before you started it would have made a difference?
15. Do you believe that educating teenagers/children of cutting would be beneficial? If so, how would you suggest it be presented? If not, what would you recommend we do to stop this epidemic?
16. Is there any specific person who helped you get through the times that you were cutting? If so, what did they do that was helpful?
17. Would you ever be willing to tell your story at a big event based on cutting prevention to a group of your peers? If not (or in addition to), would you be willing to mentor teens on a one on one basis who are in similar positions as you were in at this same event and possibly over a longer period of time? Do you think such an event would be helpful? Do you think that if you had attended one of these events before/during cutting it would have made a difference?
