Beer Vending Machines! [WHAT?!?]

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •

A beer company in the Czech Republic has done something that most party-teens dream of. They have actually created a beer vending machine!

For those of you who weren't paying attention- the Czech Republic will now have PUBLIC UNSUPERVISED BEER VENDING MACHINES!

The process is simple, you walk up to it, put your money in, scan your ID card or passport, and a beer tumbles down. The company making the beer and vending machines say they have no intentions of promoting underage drinking or drinking and driving, but it seems those will be the first two statistics to sky rocket once the machines are active. A lot of teenagers have fake ID's and the ones that don't could easily swap an ID from an older sibling or friend, possibly even a parent. I understand that beer companies want to make money and trust me, I am not against alcohol, but this seems like an extremely dangerous step.

What do you think?

I live on an island with a relaxed attitude towards drinking. There's not much of a problem with it; I'm in the Dutch caribbean, so every now and again some drunken Dutchman causes trouble, but it's no worse here than it is anywhere else. I think having a beer vending machine (with an ID scanner) is an excellent idea in some places, but probably not in America.

(if you can't see the fnords they won't eat you)

I am not against alcohol, because I like it, but I think it opens up a door for irresponsible teens to get into a lot of trouble...

Scan your ID card? Well, how is that really that different from bringing someone else's ID card to a bar? It's not like the people at the bar really check out the photo on the ID card that much. If a person has a fake ID they can just as easily use it at a bar.

I don't know where you live, but the waiters and venders here always check the ID card really carefully and ask you questions about it. They are pretty tough on that where I live.
