I know this is a controversial issue and I am not condemning anyones views on it. I have heard over and over about how students get in trouble when they do pray in school and that I disagree with. Just like students have the right to not pray in school they should have the right to pray in school. I have heard this (though myself I have not done any studies on it myself), that when required prayer was taken out of schools, that kids treated each other worse, the school violence rate grew, and disrespect for teachers became worse. I am not saying there is a corelation between prayer being taken out of school, and the rise in the behaviors I mentioned, but it does appear to me to be more than an interesting coincidence. I do not think children should be forced to pray in school, as I mentioned before, but I do think that kids should have the right to pray in school and that something needs to change to fix all the problems that are going on in schools today.

I agree that if a student wants to pray in school, he or she should be allowed too. Besides if they don't make a big deal of it how is anyone to know if they are praying or not?
In high school we had a moment of silence during the morning announcements each morning when you could pray, meditate, whatever you wanted but talk!

Kids are allowed to pray in school - there is no law or policy stating that they cannot.
What they are not allowed to do is lead each other in prayer. And that is a difference that many kids do not yet understand. There is nothing wrong with a kid sitting down to lunch and quietly saying Grace before eating; or sitting down to a test and quietly asking for help from whichever God they want to help him or her...
There is something wrong when they go up to another student and say "come pray with me".

Actually there have been studies done that data clearly shows that in the 60's when christian values were taken out of American schools teen pregnancy rates rose, as did the number of teens with STDs, also the level of violence in school, and test scores have been steadily declinging since. Never was there a rule that other religions could not be practiced on school grounds, but when morning prayer and things like that were removed our school system and childrens education obviously went down. America is based on Christian values, seperation of church and state was invented by Christian leaders to protect an individual's right to practice whatever they'd like. not to prohibit it.
Where did you hear that America was based on Christian principles? Democracy isn't even a Christian concept, muchless a Christian value.
Most of the founding fathers were deists who openly opposed the Church and several openly opposed Christianity. Yes, there were some who questioned the idea of separating church and state - since it had never been done before. Thomas Jefferson raised the question himself about whether it was right or wrong. But it's natural to question a proposed course of action when there is no precedent to follow.
The truth is, the separation of church and state began to fail as soon as they implemented "under God" into the pledge and "In God we Trust" on the money back in the 1950s. Both of these actions proved that Americans were not as ready as the nation's founders to completely separate church and state; something that is rather sad - if you ask me.
Religion and religious practices should stay in the homes. It never should have been a school's responsibility to set aside time for prayer or to teach prayer of any sort to students. That's what private schools and Sunday Schools are for. And, there is no evidence to support the claims that increased violence or teen pregnancies are a direct result of the absence of school prayers.
