* I watched the CMA Awards and I was shocked with Faith Hill's reaction to Carrie Underwood winning Top Female Vocalist of the year. I even re watched the clip from that section and she wasn't just messing around, you could see it in her reaction, in her eyes and the way she said, "What?" and then stormed off the stage. It seemed as if maybe someone told her that she was going to win cause it seemed as if she assumed she had won cause of the way she acted. Anyways, maybe ya'll should watch the clip for yourselves on www.cmt.com and then vote on my poll or comment about it.
At the moment Faith Hill realized Carrie Underwood had won the CMA's female vocalist award on Monday night (Nov. 6), she suddenly threw her arms wide open, mouthed what appeared to be a very angry "What?!" and stormed away. All the while, she was still being shown on camera as all five nominees reacted to the announcement that the award was going to the American Idol winner.
Fans immediately weighed in on the CMT.com message boards with posts ranging from "Faith Flipped Out!!" to "Oh, My ... She was totally kidding!"
As the nominations were being read by Billy Ray Cyrus and his daughter, actress Miley Cyrus, Hill was laughing as she appeared to be talking to someone out of the camera's range. When Underwood's name was called as the winner, Hill's facial expression quickly changed before she marched out of camera range. The motives for Hill's reaction were unclear.
Hill sang "Stealing Kisses" earlier in the broadcast, but she was still backstage following performances by three other acts and three award presentations when the female vocalist trophy was presented. She and husband Tim McGraw were nominated in the musical event category for "Like We Never Loved at All," but the award went to Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton's "When I Get Where I'm Going." Hill won the female vocalist award in 2000, but this was her first nomination in the category since 2001.
McGraw and Hill's Soul2Soul 2 tour played to more than 1 million fans this year.
Other nominees in the female vocalist category were Sara Evans, Martina McBride and Gretchen Wilson. Underwood is the first artist since Alison Krauss in 1995 to win both Horizon Award and female vocalist.
Hill did not visit the pressroom after the show. E-mails sent to Hill's publicists following the ceremony were not immediately returned late Monday night.
However, Sandra Westerman of Borman Entertainment, Hill's management company, told USA Today that Hill was merely joking and didn't realize she was still on camera. "She would never disrespect one of the other artists," Westerman said.

Faith Hill denies that she was disrespectful when the female vocalist of the year was announced Monday night (Nov. 6) at the 40th annual CMA Awards show in Nashville.
Hill, who was nominated in the category with Sara Evans, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood and Gretchen Wilson, was shown on a backstage camera at the ABC telecast when newcomer Underwood was announced as the winner. Hill responded with a frown and mouthed "What?!" to the camera and then stormed away.
By Tuesday morning (Nov. 7), a backstage photo of Hill was online on the Drudge Report's home page -- along with a link to a brief story in USA Today. Nationally syndicated radio host Don Imus referred to Hill's reaction during his morning show that is simulcast on MSNBC. Message boards at CMT.com remained active with fans speculating on the reasons for the singer's reaction.
In a press release issued Tuesday morning, Hill's New York-based publicist, Paul Freundlich, offered a written statement from Hill.
"The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is unimaginable to me," Hill said. "For this to become a focus of attention, given the talent gathered, is utterly ridiculous. Carrie is a talented and deserving female vocalist of the year."
Gary Borman, Hill's longtime manager, added that the singer's reaction was meant as a joke.
"I've worked with Faith for many years now, and the idea that she would ever insult or undermine another artist, let alone another human being's success, is absolutely preposterous," Borman said. "Those who know her know that she's incapable of such actions. She was being playful while the nominations were being read and playful after."

I almost wrote about that myself. I played it over a few times on YouTube, because I was not sure what to think. I really think she was shocked to find out that she didn't win. If you pay close attention, it looks as if she starts reacting to them announcing her name, just before she shouts "WHAT!?!?" I know she says she was just joking, but I don't think she was joking.

p.s.- I am kinda sick of faith hill anyways...so, I don't mind that Carrie won. Carrie is a really good singer...
Pyrochica,
I too had watched and rewatched those brief seconds of clip from the CMT's and it seemed that way to me as well. Me personally, I think someone told her she was going to win. See, they kept saying that she was acting so sweet to everyone while she waited for the winner as if she knew something someone else didn't. She stared directly into the camera, and shouted her disdain. If you are trying to hide your opinions, you sure aren't going to stare down a nationalized television camera. I think she got a huge bout of publicity whether wanted or not.
As to Carrie Underwood...yes, I do enjoy some of her music. My favorite is Jesus Take The Wheel. She is new and did deserve to win. Thanks for commenting.

umm let her be mad the fact if the matter is she was being honest which is hardley ever seen anymore especially at award shows, not to mention the fact that carrie underwood is terrible.
I think people are taking it too seriously. I mean, I heard more about this then the Kanye West incident. Personally, I think she was just mocking some behavior in the industry. I got to meet her once, and compared to some of the celebraties I've met over the years, she was one of the nicest.
Are we taking this Faith Hill reaction way too seriously? I'm sure we probably are to some extent. I mean yes how she reacted could affect a lot of issues or it would not have been blatantly plastered all over the world of her reaction to not winning whether she was playing or not.
I also understand that there are so many more important issues at hand that should be discussed more than some CMA Awards drama that lasted a few minutes. I'm sure Faith considered those few minutes and would have wished she could take it all back.
I do not know of her character; though, I have heard she likes to joke a lot. But, like I said people can change and fame can go to their heads. I don't doubt that she is very nice; she must be to be able to deal with her life constantly scrutinized and recorded and still be able to smile and speak politely through it all. I value your opinion...Thanks for your comment!

I was very concerned about her reaction? She and her hubby set themselves up as role models for children and yet she reacted this way. What is she teaching tomorrow's generation including her own children.
chscjc,
There are definitely a few sides to this story...her reaction could have been staged, someone could have told her she was going to win and she was ticked off for being misled, or she just plainly was selfish and overreacted to the whole thing knowing she was on camera the whole time. I guess no one will ever know.
As to the role model issue; yes, what she did was not right whether she meant it or was just doing it as a joke. Kids do see that and they can portray that behavior as just joking and consider it to be okay. I know as adults no one truly is the best role model; even though, there are some who come close to it. As parents it is more tough due to the fact that life can stand in the way and sway you from your true given path. Thank you for commenting on this topic.

Anyone can carry his burden, however hard, until nightfall. Anyone can do his work, however hard, for one day. Anyone can live sweetly, patiently, lovingly, purely, till the sun goes down. And this is all life really means.

You know Faith Hill shouldn't have reacted that way but at the same time I agree with MaraBeth because Faith has been in the business a lot longer than Carrie and Faith did deserve it but at the same time, i don't know what happened to MaraBeth's Brother but i know that Carrie is a pretty good singer and she has a mentality for performing and she also desereved the award.
Jenna Hensdell,
Hello, I agree that there are two conflicts here. One is she shouldn't have acted like that on public television knowing darn well the cameras would be on her. The other reason is that Faith deserves to win as she has awesome music. Her newest cd is not so great compared to her earlier work. This just wasn't her year and maybe now she can re evaluate her music choice and check her attitude. I personally think that they all deserved to win. Thanks for your comments...

I actually think that Faith Hill had a reason to be upset, if she really was upset in any way, because she has been in this profession for years and years and years, whereas Carrie hasn't. Plus Im really against Carrie because of what she had done to my cousin who went to meet her on a backstage pass. Carrie is really into herself, but then again Faith shouldnt have done that kind of a reaction on a televised event
MaraBeth,
I have always liked Faith Hill and I can understand that would be upsetting. She appeared to have been like, "What, I didn't win?" She looked so hurt and shocked as if someone told her she was going to win it. I think they all deserved to win top female vocalist.
As to Carrie Underwood...I love her song Jesus Take The Wheel; but, I don't know her or her character. I'm sorry your cousin was done that way...sometimes fame gets to people's heads unfortunately and they forget about the little people that they stepped on to get to where they are today.
