Women's Colleges

In the fall I will be attending Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. It's an all women's college known for its creative writing program. I can't wait; I think it's going to be amazing. I currently attend a coed high school, so the all women's environment is going to be a change, but it's a change I'm looking forward to.

When I tell people where I'm going and what this university is all about, though, they're skeptical. I can't believe all of the opinions I've encountered. People are full of them, and I know most of them have never attended a women's college/high school (considering about half of the people I've talked to are guys) and I can't believe that many of them have done much research on the topic. Some of the statements I've encountered:

1. "You're going to come back a lesbian!"
a) What's wrong with that?
b) Just because one goes to classes with a bunch of women doesn't mean one is around women all the time. There are several all guy schools in the area. Heck, guys probably flock there; a bunch of young women congregated in one place? Perfect place to find a date.

2. "That environment is going to be SO catty! You're going to hate it!"
a) How do you know what I do and don't hate?
b) Without guys in the classrooms, the environment is going to be much more relaxed, I should think. My admissions counselor said people will go to their morning classes in pajamas because they can. This doesn't seem like a catty environment to me, and if it is, I've dealt with it this much of my life, haven't I?

People continue to try to talk me out of it. I have no idea why. Can't they just leave me be? So I'm doing something different than they are -- I'm moving out of their box. People around here are so unaccostomed to change and they don't take to it very well. Their constant nagging is making me want to go more!

So very very true. I applied to Wellesley college, where Hilary Clintonn went, and people have said the same thing.
Also, alot fo girls get catty because they are FIGHTING OVER GUYS! haha
I love your opinions!

Thanks! I agree, a lot of girls do get catty because they're fighting over guys. Take guys out of the picture (for a majority of the time, at least) and life is going to be good. I think students at all women's colleges are going to get a lot more out of their education than those who attend coed colleges.
