Want to be equal with men? Just become one.

I think it's sad how many media messages pretend to be all about "girl power", when what they're really saying is that it's stupid to like girl things. In the music video for "Stupid Girls", Pink shows a little girl deciding to play with either a doll or a football. When she chooses the football, it's supposed to be a big victory. When people accuse Barbie dolls of being stupid or slutty it bothers me because Barbies are controlled by the girls who own them. They decide how to play with them and how many little girls would actually make her a slut? When people complain about her large boobs and love of shopping, it seems like they have a hatred for womanhood.
I think Legally Blonde has one of the best messages for girls. It's not about forgetting who you are and changing to become successful. It suggests that each person is capable of becoming successful by being exactly what they are. Also, while some groups claiming to support women only support successful professionals, Legally Blonde doesn't look down on women who are manicurists.
If a girl likes her skirts and pink sweaters, cheerleading and Barbies, they're not betraying some feminist doctrine. They're just being themselves. Isn't the right to be yourself one of the most important?

Is it yourself, though, or is it the person you were trained to be?
