Tom Vilsack, running for VP all along?

Former Governor of Iowa Tom Vilsack's presidential campaign never took off. He barely got his name in the news except for the day he announced he was running for president and the day he announced he was dropping out of the race. Now his name has re-entered the news as he endorses Hillary Clinton, the junior senator from New York.

Clinton seems like the most likely, at this point, to win the nomination even with Barack Obama as close as he is in the polls. Seeing this, Vilsack's endorsement makes it seem that all along he was running for vice president. He plans on helping Clinton win the Iowa caucuses, one of the first caucuses in 2008, and plans to give her as much support as he can so his name can appear on the 2008 Democratic ticket. Clinton-Vilsack is not a terrible combination for winning the national election.

Clinton appeals to the Northeast, parts of the Midwest, and Pacific Coast, as do most Democrats, but Vilsack is from one of the plain states and can appeal to middle America, giving Democratic party the votes it needs to win the national election.

I hope Vilsack isn't Clinton's VP. I actually want Senator Evan Bayh to become Clinton's VP. It seems like a possibility they went to Iraq together and they work together in congress. I think that Evan Bayh is the person she needs to be her VP. Bayh considered running for president but there were to many big names in the ring for him to contend. If Bayh becomes Clinton's VP this will get his name out there and hopefully a chance to run when Hillary has served her two terms. (That is if she wins.)

It's a similar concept with Tom Vilsack. He entered the race against big names and could cause any steam because of that. He's also young enough to get a chance to run if he is to be Clinton's Vice President.

Evan Bayh as a running mate would also be good because he can win Indiana, which Democrats haven't carried that well and his more moderate stances on things could appeal to those on the fence between Democrats and Republicans.

I think a Clinton-Vilsack ticket seemed more likely when Iowa mattered...but now that it's over it seems more irrelevant. It's clear that she wouldn't choose Obama, or Edwards, but I think a Clinton-Vilsack ticket is almost out of the question. Maybe it's because I'm from Ohio...but I keep hearing of a Clinton-Strickland ticket, Strickland is our very popular democratic governor.
