Why is it that it’s the smart kids who take AP classes generally?
And it’s the smart kids who want to go to Ivy League schools.
Yet the Ivy Leagues and the top notch schools tend not to give credit for AP classes. What sense does that make?
I’m one of those people in that situation. I’m taking four APs, yet two of them I get no credit for in my school. It makes no sense. You spend all that money on AP classes and then don’t even get credit and just have to spend even more money in college. Where’s the sense in that?

Im not a smart kid, well as they are protrayed. I am in normal classes and I never got ahead of myself. I took AP lit because it was 2 days a week but it really helped me learn things I didnt know. Also, I used to be horrible at essays, now I'm okay at it.
Not only smart kids take AP's. Trust me.
I never said that only smart kids take APs. Generally the smart kids take APs; it doesn't mean that other people don't either.
It's called inflation.
Take Calculus AP for example. I bet you many kids who are not "smart" enough to make A in that course still take it. Why? Fashion and peer pressure of course :)
So, since many students who are not smart are taking Calculus AP, the Collegeboard naturally reduces the course requirements and the difficulty of questions on Calculus AP exam.
As a result, many colleges do not accept the credit, despite you may get a 5 on it. Because a 5 is not good enough :)
Unfortunately my school doesn't offer BC Calculus which is what i woudl have needed. I took the AB one.
My school doesn't even offer AP classes. I was mad about it for a while, because I thought that I wasn't being given the opportunities I should have had. Now that I'm hearing that come of them don't count, it makes me feel better that I didn't have the opportunity.
Still, I don't understand why they don't count.
Certain schools and haver certain requirements and the ones that they do accept, you have to get a 5 in.

people take AP classes b/c it makes them look better when applying for colleges... personally i took AP calc b/c my dad made me, and AP govt b/c i tuely was interested in it.. but there were kids at my school who got into great schools and did not take AP classes... and kids who took a whole lotta AP classes and didn't even get into good schools... to me taking them for your resume is pointless, but im lazy, so yeah..
I took 4 AP classes and i got into UPenn. So you never know; it might help.
