Flats, stilettos, flip flops, sneakers, sandals, tennis shoes, and the ones that just don’t belong. Every shoe is so different, all crafted for unique purposes. Scales tip as some are painfully stylish while others remain comfortably ugly. Rarely, you can also uncover a pair so stunning that nobody but you understands them. When you first glimpse them, you know they’re playing your melody. Everybody is different. Now, I ask, why does society want us all the same? I believe people are like shoes. Though we all remain individuals, we wouldn’t mind living as a pair. We all have special purposes in life, and we all have something completely original about ourselves that makes us us.
Define the word “person.” Human being? Homo-sapien? Wrong. Dictionary definitions are so straightforward, so bland. People can’t be branded by just a couple words. I adore buying shoes. I love seeing them resting on racks shining with their sparkly, polka-dotted, colorfulness. It’s like I can already feel the endorphins surging through my body. Each one is completely individual with its own sole, own body, and own heel. Neon red to make a fashion statement, soft cloth hugging my foot for comfort, or even rain boots for protection. You can’t expect them to live as anything but themselves. I believe in individuality. I believe people don’t have to live like everybody around them.
Walking on the street with friends is something unbelievably fulfilling. Our smiles can shine so high, soar so far. Prancing around in my perfect shoes, humming my perfect melody just makes me so blissful. I believe everybody needs a buddy whether it be their soul mate, bestest best friend, or a furry creature walking on all fours. Just like shoes wrap around my feet, I will always cherish the feeling of someone’s arms wrapped around me. I believe people are their own. It’s true that sometimes, over the years, we might “lose” our other pair that’s meandered with us for our whole lives, but that doesn’t make us useless. We have our own lives to live. Just like shoes, we can always match up with another, maybe not as well, but we still can.
Here’s a very cliché, yet very true statement. The higher you climb, the harder you fall. Take a stiletto and examine it. Those shoes really know how to strut their stuff. They appear so incredibly composed, but they’re held up so high on such an emaciated heel. If you push on it with too much power, it’ll snap. I believe in going with the flow. Still, the feeling of being airborne is breathtaking. When so high it’s as if I’m free-falling, I feel so liberated. I could accomplish anything I wanted to. I believe in heels. I believe in the higher perspective they let you see from.
Take your time. Look through the shoe racks in the T.J. Max or Gucci nearest you. When you do, I promise each individual pair will emanate a special aura unique to themselves. I believe people can’t be defined. I believe we are like shoes. We are all who we want to be, and we can all find melodies that fit our harmonies. Everybody’s different, as are shoes.
This is just something I wrote for English class. We had to write about something we believed. Honestly, we are all like shoes.
