Castro & the Futre of Cuba

Tagged:  •    •    •

So I am sure everyone has heard that Fidel Castor stepped down as Cuba's president during the night. When I heard the news this morning I was kinda in shock, I had believed that he would keep his power until the day he died. This is his quote that Castro wrote to inform the world, "I will not aspire to, nor will I accept the position of president of the council of state and commander in chief,".

I do wonder though if this is really the end of communism in Cuba, that’s what all of the news stations were saying this morning but won’t his brother probably take over the country? And although Raul (Fidel’s brother) has said that he will reform the nations government, do you really think it will happen? I mean if what he says is true that’s great, but I would still like to see it happen before we have a party or anything.

This story also makes me wonder how Cuban's living in America feeling. I live in Texas so there isn't nearly the same number of Cuban's as in Miami, but I have a friend who is half Cuban. I wonder how he feels about the whole situation, is he happy, does he care? I think it will affect the parents of our generation, the ones who lived under Fidel to explain how important this day in history is. We will just have to wait and see.

Well that’s the end of my first blog, if you have questions, comments, anything don’t be afraid to share them.

Yeah, this is a really critical issue but I don't think that it is Fidel Castro who fuels all of the passion for communism in Cuba. I mean, if Cuba has been able to resist American exports and continue along with their way of life, even if Castro steps down, the people of Cuba would still continue on with life.

But I can see where the thought that Castro was the only representation and the glue that held communism together there. Shrug, I guess we will have to let time play out.

Well I for one, am a fan of Fidel. And the reason why he stepped down was probably to not show his weakness of being human (aka dying) while in power. When the US gets confirmation of Fidel actually dying, if Raul still wants to be a communist entity then the US will just rush in and impose a democracy. Raul actually wants the embargo to be dropped so it would seem as if he will have a democracy.

It depends on what type of cuban you are. If you were a rich one in before when Batista was in power, then you would hate Fidel. If you were wealthy when Fidel was in power, you're happy.
